weight loss stalled

Recommended Posts

So this is my 1st post. I have lurked for a while. I am 2 weeks post op today. Last Weednesday I moved from Clear Liquids to regular liquids. Since I made that move I have not lost any weight. Actually I put on 2 lbs and then lost those 2. I am very discouraged at the moment. Diet consists of high Protein Meal Replacement shakes. I had added in some blended Soups ( split pea, lentil, cream of chicken etc) Yesterday out of frustration I had the shakes only. I am making sure that I am getting enough Water, roughly 60-90 oz aday. Any suggestions or thoughts.

I'm with you . I'll be two weeks on Thursday . I have stalled for the last 4 days . So frustrating. I just got off with my NUT to see if I hold cut down on the Protein Shakes. She said absolutely not. It's my body catching up . Medically I get it BUT I'm still frustrated.

A couple of things to think about. The body will fight you like crazy to hold on the fat that it has stored. This is a very normal process that happens 2-3 weeks after surgery. Since the body has been getting all the fuel it wants and then some, it reacts badly when the wheels suddenly come off the bus. The best thing I can recommend is not to cut back on calories. This is only going to make the problem worse. Try increasing the amount of Protein you are getting. Drink the Water as it fills the fat cells and doesn't give them the opportunity to push more fat in their place. Do watch the simple carbs (creamy Soups, milk based products etc). That satisfies the system and it thinks that it is getting lots of fuel (fat) to store and then it decides not to burn any, just store it. Cardio exercise helps as it speeds up the metabolism, pushes blood through the bloodstream and therefore gets the body to release some of the stored fuel (fat). A little weight training helps as well. Good luck, don't get discouraged, once you figure it out, you won't stall often.

Thanks for the encouragement a guys. Stall has ended but weight loss is about 2-2.5 lbs a week. My pan said that is good but my mind set was it would be faster.

I'm 4 weeks today. I had major stall week 3, didn't lose a single pound! Soooo frustrating because my calories per day is usually under 600! It looks like I will lose 2-3 lbs this week so in guess my body is just trying to recover from the shock of what happened!

At this stage, focus on healing. The weightloss will come later. If you think about all you might have lost pre surg and the bit you lost after it probably adds up to quite a bit. Dont get discouraged when you stall it is very normal. In time, your sleeve with be an awesome tool toward healthy Portion Control. You didn't gain all the weight in a few months, give your body time to heal and then you will be able to focus on healthy eating and excersize and all the fun things that will be part of your new healthy lifestyle. Good luck in your journey!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
