Hi Laura!!

Oh my word bird!! Sounds like a busy house this evening!! I bet you were ready for down time!!!

The new dentist sounds a little but crazy!! But thorough is always good!! Is he new to dentistry or is that a normal exam?

Today had a hard start!! Kidney pain!! Blah!! The great news is as the day progressed things eased up! :) So lucky! I was well enough to go out on a date with my hubby tonight!!! :) it was great fun!! :) my sister watched little Venla!! This is our first time going out on a date since surgery!!!

Do you get results from your scan tomorrow?

Do you have chills?

Best,

Sannah

Hehe I told the other mothers that sure their kids can come over... That I'm just going to let them drink beer and invite girls over! :P

Hehe.. I did feed them pizza though and then walked them over to the ice cream store to hop them up on sugar first before they went home!!

Sorry your day started out rough... But happy you got to go out on a date!

The radiologist will send his report to my doc in the next couple of days I hope!

Haha the dentist was not "new" she is just into oral health like crazy! X-rays panoramic scan a tiny camera in my mouth to chart every tooth measured my gums?? Lordy my mouth is tired!

Where did you guys go tonight?

I had a leak , but my doc caught it in surgery. That was 3/11.

He said he restapled that area-at the top. Before I was discharged he had me do a postop "barium swallow." And of course- the dose was a baby dose. How many of you that had leaks had a "swallow" before you were discharged?

My surgeon does a barium swallow leak test on everyone the day after your surgery. You can't drink anything until after you pass the test, so day 2 can be pretty miserable--but I'm so glad the he does it. I looked it up on PubMed and this process does help prevent unidentified leaks causing an issue later on. I think most surgeons also do the leak test during the surgery before they close you up.

Hey Laura,

Man!!! Well, that exam sounds great!!! Jaw ache?

I love your plan! Pizza and icecream!!! Easy and they will be bumped up when they head home!!!! That is so great!

In Portland, we are really into having our neighborhoods named and they are often uniquely filled with character. We used live in a neighborhood called Hawthorne, its known for liberalism. We went back to one of our favorite little pubs and played some cards. Hubby had a good IPA and we played cards. It was a little slice of heaven!!! We will get back into our older neighborhood with all our hippies!!!

Tell the radiologist to hurry up!! Golly!

Best,

Sannah

Your night sounds like fun! It's nice having date night! I'm glad you were able to make that time for yourselves :)

Aww yes a day without kiddos!! Enjoy mama!!

I just got a call from the cardiologist!! :) yay!! I am healthy enough to do as I please!! I was previously approved to walk and lift 3lbs. Haha. Venla is more than 3lbs. ;) silly doctor!!! He knew about her. :)

No not nervous at all. Happy to hear his opinion. I am at peace with it all. If I have to do this alone, I will live!! It won't be fun!! I have my family and your support. I can do anything right!?

Any plans for the week?

Sannah,

Awesome that you can lift Venla free and clear!

Oh I spoke to soon! Now my daughter has friends over! Oh well better here than running around town!

I understand what your saying about your appointment tomorrow. It seems that now they were able to take away one thing (the spasms)

It's been a little better?

I still have to tackle my fish tanks this week. Which is a lot of work but the up side is going to the fish store to buy my salt Water and talk to the cute boys that work there! :P

Once in a while my husband likes to tease me and say he's coming with me to the fish store to ruin my fun. :)

What about you are you doing anything else this week?

Hey Laura,

Fish tanks eh!? I bet they are so pretty!!! How many do you have?! I could watch the fish swim around for hours, it's so relaxing!!! Flirting with the boys eh!? Extra fun!!!????

Well, I think your right!! The girls are better off at your house than out and about!!

Not sure what I am going to do! Exercise since I finally was approved to do whatever I like!!! :) I have a precor elliptical here and now I can finally put that bad boy to use!! I aspire to be a runner!!! ???? I have a long ways to go!!!

I have a personal health coach she called for the first time today. She is going to call me again in Friday so we can talk about my urology appointment.

Doing anything fun for the weekend?

Best,

Sannah

Hey Laura,

I forgot to reply about my esophageal spasm. It's all good as long I as I take the medicine twice daily. Isn't it strange? Tomorrow will be one week of being able to eat without severe pain, nausea and vomiting!! ????

Hi Sannah,

I've never heard of a "personal health coach"

What is it?? I'm glad your cleared to get moving again. But don't go over board! Lord knows I don't :P

I have two tanks one of them is a "pico" coral tank it's only 2 gallons and only contains corals, star fish and one tiny clown goby. The bigger tank has mostly corals too but a few fish and a pesky shrimp that I swear one day I will eat!

He steals all the food out of the corals mouths when I spot feed them!

I'm glad the new medicine works for the spasms..

I wonder how long you will have them and have to take it??

Laura

I tried to take a picture but its really hard with the phone...

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
