Ok so I've been doing lots of browsing through the forums. Lots of people eat about 800-1000 cals on average.

Now to those who have been sleeved, is this a huge change from the amount of calories you were eating before surgery?

I ask because before I was pregnant I would only eat 900 cals a day (tracked in mfp). I exercised daily and did this for over 5 months and only lost 15lbs.

By logic shouldn't a person who hasn't been sleeved but eats and drinks and exercises as if they had been loose weight similarly to those that have actually been sleeved?

I'm having my daughter on feb 18 by c section. They require me to be on a clear liquid diet 2 days after and then soft foods for 2 or 3 days after.

If I were to do a liquid diet for a week and a soft food diet for 2 weeks and then start eating as if I had been sleeved (very small portions, no drinking while eating, lots of Protein, low carb) should I not get the same results I would get if I Had actually been sleeved?

I'm very curious to find out do if I get the go ahead from my dr this is what I will be doing.

I've been so strict with what I eat my entire life and have still continued to gain weight. I'm almost sure it is because of some underlying medical condition. I was tested when I was young (about 8) at a clinic for overweight children run by a university and was told my metabolism is 40% it should be but they've never done anything about it, or ever told me how to deal with this.

Ya see I'm not diabetic or on any prescriptions (other than nexium).

Just irritates me when I see people eating sooo unhealthy and being lazy and people and they start eating vegetables and lose like 50 lbs. I wish it was that easy, I hate being associated with people who generally don't care about their health and eat WAYYY too much or WAYY too unhealthy.

I have always ate very healthy. I exercise, I don't eat tons of junk, I don't eat obscene portions and yet I still gain weight. It's like I have to try 5 times harder than everyone else.

The only time I ever lost alot of weight was when I was 17 and sooo sick of being fat despite eating well and going to the gym everyday. And I just stopped eating, I was horribly bulimic, but would never binge I'd only eat once a day if that, I abused drugs and laxitives alot. It's not fair that I had to resort to that. I would skip school to workout for 3 hours at a time.

That approach isn't an option anymore, I am a mother and an adult with responsibilities.

I really feel that I was in same boat. I was "healthy" for most part other than wine and stuff. After my three kids and stopped nursing I gained the weight. I didn't excersise but was active. . I prob ate around 2000-2500 a maybe. I'm now 4 mths out and have lost 69 lbs I couldn't have done this without. I had the same feeling of can't I just do the same thing and lose??? It's not the same the surgery changes you hormonally .... I can explain it but glad I did it. Congrats on your baby :)

I've always been overweight though. And 2000 calories is alot for me. Even being 9 months pregnant I'm only eating 1,400. I've been tracking my calories for over 5 years. Sure there are days I eat around 2500 but that's very rare (usually when we go to dinner and a movie).

It just seems like everyone started eating 800 cals a day and magically started loosing. I only eat 900-1000 cals when in not pregnant and I don't loose weight. Very frustrating.

You will lose the weight if you have the surgery I can promise you that. Are you having second thoughts? As that is truly normal :)

Well kind of, I haven't set a date or anything and am going to look into ohip covering it if I go to the states (less wait time).

It's just that I don't want to spend $7000 if its not going to help. 800 calories is 800 calories, doesn't matter how big your stomach is. If I can't loose weight living on 800 calories for over 5 months without the sleeve why should that change once I have the surgery?

This is my only concern. It just makes me wonder. I've searched the Internet and forum High and low to find someone else who only ate around 1000 calories BEFORE being sleeved and still gaining weight and have had zero luck.

It seems like everyone ate a ton and never tracked their intake and once they were sleeved they just consumed less and kept track and lost a bunch of weight. I've been doing that for years now.

I had a similar situation, I didn't eat very many calories in a day (1,500 on a high day). My NUT actually had me eating more calories prior to surgery; the problem was not getting in nearly enough Protein. Since I increased my protein intake I started to loose (still very slowly, but loss none the less). I started the program this past August weight 276, and on my surgery date (1/21/13) I weighed 243. So maybe try increasing your protein intake? Just my thoughts...you may have already tried, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Hope you figure it out!!

I would be concerned too, wonder if before you were in starvation mode and ur body wouldn't lose just a thought... W a smaller tummy we don't seem to go into that starvation but I could be wrong.

You do know that you are on a site with many people who have in the past made unhealthy food choices, who have paid for those bad habits, yet are now trying to correct the past. It just goes to show you that sometimes it's not about what we ingest, but sometimes our body makeup. I think it's a good thing that we have options like the sleeve to put us on the path of a healthier life.

Now to those who have been sleeved, is this a huge change from the amount of calories you were eating before surgery? Yes, it is a change.....no more ice cream, candy....

If you're being completely honest with yourself about eating 800-900 calories a day and exercising, then I wouldn't have the surgery. There's something else wrong and cutting out most of your stomach isn't going to help. Your stomach isn't what causes you to go into starvation mode. It's just an organ that aids in digestion. Are you eating 3-5 meals a day or just one big meal?

Usually 2 meals and 4 Snacks.

And yes I track my food religiously. I also believe there is an underlying cause. Just wish my dr would listen to me.

I'd get a new one if it was an option, here in Ontario there is a huge shortage of drs.

I have in the past yes and followed their orders and gained 20lbs (this was when I was 12). I'm going to ask at my next drs appt to be referred. Who knows how long the waiting list is.

I too saw a doctor about not being able to lose weight. At the time I was eating healthy and going to the gym. I could tell she didn't take me seriously. So I understand that. Truth is I don't think a lot of doctors understand obesity. I would get with a nutritionist before doing surgery. Maybe they can help with your metabolism.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
