Weight Training Before Surgery

Recommended Posts

Okay so I'm so scared that I'm going to lose a lot of the muscle in my legs which I don't want to do. I played competitive volleyball for 7 years and have very muscular legs that I don't want to lose. I carry all my weight in my abdomen. I can't decide if it will be beneficial to me to do weight training before surgery to bulk up my muscle so hopefully I won't lose a lot of it. Just a thought, I didn't know if anyone else had these thoughts.

I carry all of my weight in the middle too. Good point you make, as my legs have always been my best feature too. I don't have a date yet but have started weight training (focusing on my arms) because I want to keep my arms as firm as possible. I'm curious to see what the chime in will be...

Yes! Go get a trainer, I joined Planet Fitness which is only $10/mth and a trainer is included. I actually got my assesment today for my yearly goal. I told him about the surgery and he knew straight up what to train me on to keep toned and not loose muscle mass. Theres apparently a range your heart rate needs to be at too to burn fat and not muscle. Its worth it, even if you just attend a few sessions to get on a schedule you can follow by yourself. Best luck!!!! I'm about a month away from surgery and my trainer was very pleased I joined when i did :)

Thanks for the info. I actually work at planet fitness here in texas! Lol. So a trainer isn't much needed. I'm just gonna start a lifting routine until i have the surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
