UNBELIEVABLE prototype

Recommended Posts

As my doc was doing my fill today, he shared an interesting little tidbit with me. There is a prototype of a new band that uses a REMOTE CONTROL to fill/unfill the band!! How awesome is that!! However, I can envision my band filling and unfilling every time my husband changes the TV (which is CONSTANT)!!! It'll be interesting to see how long it takes the remote controlled band to get approved!

I read about that, about a year ago I think. If I remember correctly they were doing preliminary tests in Denmark, but I could be remembering completely incorrectly. I'm not sure I'm a fan of the idea, and I don't mind fills, but it will be interesting to see how it pans out. :)

Surely that's unfill/fill by remote that only the doctor has? Because can you imagine the consequences of people unfilling themselves to pig out, the band just wouldnt work at all for so many people if they had the option to let something out so that they could eat.

If I remember correctly they still the the adjustments with flouro....I could be way off but I believe the remote was very expensive and only at hospitals. ~Mandy

I agree with Jachut. If I'd had the 'willpower' to make that decision. I'm not sure I'd have needed the band in the first place.

However, then another thought comes to mind. Very honestly, I really did prefer the 'restricted' experience and the weight loss it helped me to achieve. Now, being pretty much unable to have a fill do what it is meant to do, I have alot more trouble with choices, so they may be on to something here.

Perhaps, if the Dr mans this remote for the initial first 6 months to a year, (until the patient can see the benefits of restriction), it will be a successful idea. I think I like it!

I have not made research about it. But would not like to have any sort of battery inside, because of any kind of acid leakage....( Am I wrong)???:phanvan

There are batteries inside pacemakers and internal defibrillators, etc. I am sure it would have to be medically approved, not just a normal battery. :D

I was going to have the Easyband. The doctor has a card rather like a credit card which is kept at the hospital. When you go for an adustment [obvioulsy there is no fill/unfil as there is no saline - it is electronically opened and closed] he places the card into the machine [rather like the machine at the store when you pay by credit card] It has all of your details on it and he can then remotely open/close the band.

I was all set to have this band on 11th March but during the op two of the surgeons decided that it was too large a band for my stomach and that it wouldn't give enough restriction. Hope this answers some of your questions.

Sure, it sounds like a good idea. Till your surgeon sees you sitting across the restaurant with a heaping plate of Pasta in front of you. Out comes the remote and WHAM, No Pasta For You!

My NP and I were laughing about this scenario on my last visit. She was telling me about the studies being conducted in Australia.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
