I'm sure it's been discussed before but I'm having a terrible time with acid. Lots of churning and gurgling in my stomach. When I eat it feels like the food is getting stuck and it doesn't matter if I take 2 bites or five it all comes back up. I can keep liquids down. Protein Shakes make me sick to my stomach but I manage to keep them down. This has been getting worse over the last week and I have called the surgeon's office three times and no return call yet.

Any ideas? Could this be a hernia. I take prevacid once a day as per doc and it does nothing.

I'm 9 weeks post op

I would repeatedly call my docs office till i got an answer or go there in person and tell them your calsl have gone unanswered. Trying ask for the office manager next time you call and let them knoiw you are not getting called back thats just not acceptable. Its your right to get the help you deserve.

Yes call again! That's not professional at all.

You need this taken care of, we have to take care of our sleeves...its all we have left of our stomaches.

I sure hope you get help soon!!

Thanks. Talked to receptionist an hour ago and told her the problem... said the PA would call right back. Hasn't happened yet.

Just called again... this time I was told the PA is in surgery and the receptionist has no idea when she'll be able to call me back.

I'm not a Dr so this advice is just from me as a friend...start taking prevacid in the morning and in the evening.

Also try waiting 30 minutes no fluids before eatting.

Who is your Dr. if you don't mind me asking?

Also go back to mincing your food in a blender and use a small fork or baby fork/spoon. Let several minutes pass inbetween each bite.

This won't be forever but the first several months our stomaches are quite tender.

I sure hope this helps some.

Thanks lessofme I will try your suggestions. I'm in Nebraska my surgeon is Dr. Hovey who up until now has been fantastic. The PA is Dr. Robby and she gas been inconsistent at best. I had trouble with dehydration the first three weeks and my husband had the same issue getting phone calls returned unless it was after hours and Dr. Hovey is on call.

I would also suggest taking the over the counter acid reducer you can get at any drug store. I've been on one since the very beginning and have just been told to double my dose after 3 yrs post-op. I now take 40mg daily. Had a recent scope that showed damage to my esophagus. So anyone else reading - don't stop taking your acid reducer unless instructed to do so - and even then I'd question it!

PS - my last scope also showed ANOTHER hernia, even though my surgeon said he repaired a hiatal hernia during my sleeve surgery. Not doing anything about it at this time though.

You've paid the Dr lots of money for this surgery perhaps an after hour call is needed...I would inform him of your repeated attempts to reach his assistant during business hours.

Acid is very serious in our sleeves and he will be aware of that...it can cause problems and ulcers...since its been a week with no return call I would suggest an after hour call.

I know we all dislike doing that but it seems his office has left you no other choice :(

I have been having the same issue!! I was hoping it got better with time, but you're a good 7 weeks ahead of me! I will say that they sent me home taking one pepcid a day. By the first week I was up to 2 a day, plus tums for breakthrough acid. When I went back for my 2 week appt they gave me prilosec instead that I'm taking twice a day. I have noticed an improvement since switching, thank goodness. I try not to eat too late b/c the acid bothers me most at night. I even tried some home remedies - apple cider vinegar. Not only did it not work, it made me violently vomit for 10 minutes. BLEH.

Hoping your acid gets better I know it can be so miserable!!!

PA finally called back. I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon and hopefully this will get figured out and I will have some relief soon. Thanks for the support, I'm really isolated in my life right now as I closed my business for a while to concentrate on getting healthy and my husband is out of town two weeks every month and the kids are at school. So I'm alone most of the time....didn't realize what an impact feeling sick and being alone would have. Anyway I digress. Thanks again

I'm glad they called!! Please keep us updated.

I hope you will come here and share your journey with us. It's a nice place to come especially if you are feeling alone. The surgery produces a lot of emotions and tons of hormones, we all need support and some conversation through it all!

Welcome to VST :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
