Does Splenda hinder weight loss?

Recommended Posts

I've been drinking Decaf tea with splenda. Will that make my weight loss decrease? Is there anything wrong with splenda?

I just want to be sure.

Sucralose (the stuff in splenda that makes it taste like sugar) is good. However, Splenda does have carbs in it. Each tiny packet is 1g of carb. So a packet here or there is not so bad, but if you're like me and you're using it to sweeten just about *everything* you drink in a day (I love tea!) that can add up to an extra 15-20 carbs a day. Of course, that goes for any artificial sweetener that is powdered (equal, sweet n low).

What I do is I use liquid sucralose, which has no carbs at all. You can get it through Amazon under the brand EZSweetz, or elsewhere on the internet. Just do a search for liquid sucralose and you'll find tons of it. I buy the EZSweetz in the 3 pack that runs about $20 (yeah, it's pricy >.>) but each drop is equal to 2 teaspoons of sugar in terms of sweetness and It takes me a month or more to go through even one bottle.

Hey Gamer, is that stuff similar to Stevia? I've been using liquid Stevia for a while and it's great. Really sweet and no after taste.

I've only tried stevia once, but I remember it being touted as an "all natural" sweetener. To me, it had the worst kind of aftertaste and I haven't tried it again. Sucralose is born and raised in the lab, as far as I know. I figure, though, out of all the chemicals I've ever ingested, one more doesn't hurt :D

I tell people 'it's hard treating your body like a temple after it's been a porta-potti for so long!'

Wow, you guys really came through! Thanks for the help :)

I think I'm going to try Stevia, just to see what it's like. I do feel better about using Splenda though. I appreciate the help :D

I think the worst thing about artificial sweeteners is that they can make you crave other sweet things. I use sweet n low, and I don't think I will be able to kick it. I don't find that it makes me crave things I shouldn't have. I have never counted the carbs associated with how much I use, and my weight loss is still progressing.

I've tried diff brands of stevia...I like "Truvia" brand the best, but I don't think it's just stevia, I think it has xylitol in it too. I also use splenda quite a bit, even the one with added Fiber, and like both. Not sure of carb count...honestly I've never checked!

I am a big fan of Truvia, too. To me it has the least "chemical" taste of all of the sweeteners.

Stevia is all natural--comes from a plant.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
