My scale "teased" me... it was incredibly mean.

Recommended Posts

So, I was sleeved on 10/22/12... I have been working really really hard, but last time I saw my surgeon (Dec 18) he said I wasn't losing fast enough... My starting weight was 255, and my reward goal is reaching ONEderland...I plan to buy a fitbit. So, I re-doubled my efforts...get in my Protein, eat very low carbs, and excercise on the treadmill for 45 min. EVERY day.

I only weigh on Monday mornings, as not to get too discouraged...last Monday, I was 208.9... this morning I get on the scale (scale is at the same place on the floor, wearing undies only, right after my shower) and the scale said...

197.8. I almost fainted. I stepped off, let the scale reset to 00.0, and stepped on again. (I always do this)... 197.8. I run back to my phone so that I can log in my weigh in Lose It... Then I think - I should take a PICTURE of the scale! I return to the bathroom, ditch the robe, step on the scale and...

208.3. WTF!!?? I let the scale reset to 00.0 again and step gingerly on... 208.3. No matter what I do, it doesn't budge. I am sooooooo bummed... I told my husband, it was like getting a lottery scratch off and having it say you won $100,000... then, have the decimal point move and you actually won $10.00.

I will buy new batteries for my scale this evening... but now I feel as though maybe it is been wrong all along!? I am trying not to make it a big deal...but it really really is.

OMG you had me in stitches laughing so hard!! Okay now I agree it must be shocker how could it do that to you? I actually have a scale called "Thinner" that has a life-time lithium battery in it. Maybe it would be worth to get one with this type of battery to prevent this from happening again. You will get to under 200 pounds! Just hang in there!

I made the mistake of weighing myself on a couple of different scales.....now I don't know which one is my true weight. I wish that I could go every week to the doc's office for weigh in, but it's an hour away.

That's a big difference! Stupid scale!

How old is your scale? It sounds pretty new since it has weights to the tenth of an ounce. Try weighing things that you know the weight of and see if it is accurate. You can also use a level to see if your scale is placed on level flooring.

I noticed on my scale that how I stand can impact my weight. If I lean forward slightly, I am about .2 pounds heavier than if I stand straight. If I lean back slightly, the same thing only lower not heavier.

I'm sorry your scale was mean, but I have to say that I loved your post. You made me laugh because I could totally relate! You will be in Onderland soon!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
