Trouble getting liquids down

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 days post op and having troubles getting anything down. The tiniest sip of anything makes my stomach gurgle and cramp. Anyone else experience the same thing? Does it pass soon? Thanks for any advice!

it's going to feel different, but you have to get use to the new feeling and sounds. Also maybe don't do straight Water mix it your flavor packet. I personally don't do crystal light because of the aspartame. So I have my own all natural drink mix. But take small sips and just get use to the new feeling of it going down...it's way kinda weird but you do have a new smaller stomach.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! I love plain Water and tried to drink a Protein Shake. Sipping tiny amounts at a time. I sure hope the cramping goes away though. I'm guessing its because my sleeve maybe bring swollen a bit from surgery? Thank you for your advice!

Good advice! I feel pretty weak but I plan on getting out in just a bit for a walk. I bet that does make me feel better. Thank you!

I am 3 weeks out today and just started being able to do plain Water and even now it cannot be cold (which I loved ice water before). It literally felt like lead rolling down into my belly, room temp water does go down easier though. I added Protein nectar to my water and even that made it go down easier. It gets better every single day, so don't get to worried that it's going to be like this forever! ;)

Hi Jamie, I had surgery 12/28 and I've been feeling the same way. I guess we just keep trying. I called my bariatric dietitian and she said that it is more important to make sure we put Fluid before Protein because we don't want to get dehydrated. It has gotten to the point where I can't STAND the smell of my chocolate protein drinks. Going out today to see if I can get some chicken Soup and blend it real good. Hang in there! :)

I replied to you but it's disappeared ;) thank you for the encouraging advice! I think you're absolutely right, we have to not get dehydrated! I finally am able to get fluids down slowly and found a Protein Drink that's pretty good. Also I puréed some cream of potato soup last night and ate about 1/2 a cup. I think that helps! I also discovered that split pea soup w ham from Campbell's has 11 gms of protein per serving. I think that's what I'm going to have for dinner. Good luck and thanks again for your encouragement!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
