Surgery done 12/12/12

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I've completed my procedure on a week ago today. Actually came home on the following evening 12/13/12. Praises to God that all is well do far. Just had my staples removed today (1st post-op appt).

My biggest struggle is getting in 60 grams of of Protein and 60 ozs of fluids....any suggestions? Trying not to end up back in the hospital from dehydration. Any words of encouragement. Otherwise, I feel fine. Get tired pretty easily, but was told by my PA that it is because I need more intake. I KNOW that, but it is sooo hard and also concerned about my sleeve staples.

Thanks R.

Isopure has a lot of Protein although its waaaaaay sweet. Try drinking it in place of Water to keep you hydrated and proteined up. Congrats on a successful surgery.

I'm also 12/12/12. I have a different post op diet (32oz milk and 32oz liquid) so the milk is all the Protein I gave to get in right now.

Just have a steady approach. I have a schedule that tells me when I should have what. After all.. We aren't feeling hungry!

Thanks PetraLuxor....I have heard of Isopure, hadn't tried it as of yet. Been using Glucerna, GNC Total Lean and Oh Yeah Protein shakes.I may go pick up an Isopure the end of the week.

You should. Isopure is different from traditional Protein drinks as they are not shakes but more like flavored Water. I've only had the melon flavor (its a greenish color) and wasn't too crazy about it. I'll choose another flavor next time I buy some.

Hi I'm pre-op but a former (successful) lapbander. I can't offer much info on Protein Shakes because I only tryed/used one right after my lapband was put in. I used Isopure low carb dutch chocolate. I used it differently than it suggests. Instead of using 12 oz of Water and 2 scoops of isopure, I put 6 oz of skim milk into a blender and 2 scoops of isopure. Honestly, it wasnt bad at all. was kind of like chocolate milk that we used as kids (with the powder not syrup). I actually just looked up the isopure I used. I'm trying to figure out if this meets the requirements of the Protein. I there too many calories, sugar, carbs?? does anyone know what the intake should be of all this??

I lost about 10 lbs. At surgery date I was 210.5 and today's post-op visit showed 200.2. Just getting a little worried about dehydration. Working on it hard to stay focused.

I had surgery 12/10 when I got to the Protein Shakes I about died of gas an nausea I couldn't do it I had a breakdown thinking I wasn't going to ever get Protein and I would lose my hair and be super weak. I took the advice of some others on here suggesting instead of mixing my protein with milk mix it with Water real eye opener. I drink a orange peach flavor protein with water and ice and it tastes like orange juice. Don't worry about getting all your protein right away it gets a lot easier.

Oh, ok. Sounds good. I know one thing.....I used to LOVE a good Protein shake, but getting tired of them already.....lol. Starting my 2nd week tomorrow, wish me luck! I've also been changing up a little with watered down cream of chicken and mushroom Soups....trying to get hot meals in. sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles are my FRIENDS

Really you shouldn't have staples in the sleeve itself. Got the highest Protein powder you can find. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury is pretty high. Or go to the Vitamin Shoppe and look around. I found one with 25 gr of Protein in it. And as they said in the hospital. Sip sip sip walk walk walk sip sip sip. Good luck.

LOL....I guess what I was really trying to say, I know the stomach was "stapled" off and the remaining removed and was wondering if there was a possibility to get too full and have problems. My problem is probably, thinking too much. I did much better today with my protein intake, got two shakes in amounting to 40 grams along with Soups and broth...and about 45 ozs of Fluid...still pushing. Thanks for the advice. The staples I had removed were from my drainage site, and fortunately, I haven't had any bleeding or drainage issues. Scars are healing really well.

Where can you purchase Isopure

I haven't found it yet, but I was told that Vitamine Shoppe carries it. I didn't find it at GNC.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
