Dr Umbach was my doctor - almost 3 years ago. Great doctor - very knowledgeable and confident. My mother-in-law was a surgical nurse for many years. I told her that if at the last minute she didn't approve of him, I would back out. After talking with him and asking him questions at my pre-op, she was "Yep! He's doing your surgery". I knew I had found a good doctor! He even called my husband after the surgery (he stayed home with the kids) to let him know everything had gone well.

Besides that ... what doctor do you know that gives you his personal cell phone number & actually takes his calls? Loved that!

On your way to a brand new you. 5 days out and I feel great. Wonderful. I'm sleepy more often but that's nothing. I'm down a total of 18 lbs today. Woot. Your making a great decision for yourself.

Dr. Umbach and his staff were great yesterday. They made me laugh right up to the moment that I went under yesterday. I feel great with the exception of terrible gas pain in my shoulders. My stomach has zero pain!!!

Do you think his price is still $10400.00? Did that cover everything or were there any hidden fees? I can't decide on going to las vegas or cancun. I just wish I could get over being so nervous about mexico. My biggest concern is something going wrong after surgery and being back home. What do you do then?

His price is still $10400 as long as you pay cash. $11000 if you pay by credit card. It does include everything. You can also purchase BLIS insurance that cover you for a certain amount of time for most post op complications. I'm not sure if BLIS covers surgeons in Mexico. But you can check on the website to see what surgeons are covered.

I live in the Vegas area and went to Mexico for my surgery. My surgeon has much more experience than the Vegas surgeons and it was much cheaper. I hadn't heard of anyone having complications and I didn't have any either. Insurance will cover your follow-up and they don't need to know where your surgery was anyway. My PCP is following me with no problem. Actually I've only been once for a one-month follow up and I go back for a 6-month appt.

Nice to hear this from our two recent posters. Just to let you know, I am over two and half years post surgery, have great restriction and am still maintaining my goal weight. I think Dr Umbach did a great job on me and I'm sure the same will hold true for both if you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
