Sleep Apnea Test...anything That Might Make Sleep Apnea Worse?

Recommended Posts

I know this might sound awful.. But my insurance needs two years morbid obesity. I am now and have been for a year and a half but no record of it. I was recommended for a study but Ian wondering if anyone knows what might make apnea worse for the night. Please don't judge me. I know apnea is serious but I need this diagnosis for a Co morbidity. If anyone had any tips like Benadryl or something please let me know.

My husband has this and when he is overly tired or had lots to drink (alcohol) it makes it worse.

You either have sleep apnea or you dont ... there is nothing you can do to "bring it " on . I actuallly thought i had it again , I had it before when i was over weight with my lap band ... and turned out I didnt have it now .

You may have sleep apnea & not even be aware of it as that is what happened in my case...

I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea after my first sleep study. I returned for the CPAP study in which I was fitted for a mask & my breathing was regulated throughout the night. When I met with the pulmonary specialist a few weeks ago he said I go into apnea every two minutes while I sleep. Last week when I got my CPAP machine for home the therapist said every 50 minutes the machine was adjusted. Up until I had the studies, I thought I had sleep apnea b/c many nights I would wake up & my heart would be racing...& Dr. said that is when my body goes into 'flight mode' to keep me breathing. Pulmonary Dr. said I may not have to use the CPAP after my surgery as some times sleep apnea can come from your body's anatomy. I have been using my CPAP at home for a week now & I sleep like I never have before :)!!

I have sleep apnea as well. I have trouble sleeping very long with my mask on. After a couple of hours I wake up in a panic. My pressure is 15 and the only way I can fall asleep is to use the ramp feature and when the pressure gets too high for me I hit the ramp button again. I know I need the machine but I have no idea how to adjust to it better.

After I lost my weight with the lap band the sleep apnea went away , my doc said my sleep study was one of the worsts he's ever seen haha . I never got into REM Sleep and I stopped breathing every 30 seconds or so . I had never felt so good after i started using the CPAP .. there is a mask I had to get because i too felt like i was being smothered with the mask ... let me find it

I tried the nasal pillow mask at my fitting sleep study and i found that to be awful, you can't breathe out of your mouth at all with that one so i just had him bring in the face mask bc at least with that i could vary how i breathed.

I use one that is a mask but just covers your nose, works good for me.

I started out with a mask that covered just my nose, it was ok. Then I started having a very congested feeling in my sinuses and started breathing through my mouth when I was sleeping. My Dr. ordered a full face mask. I still have problems getting use to that one too.

I know that you can't "bring on" sleep apnea. I was just wondering if anyone had been in a similar situation, or knew certain things that aggravated sleep apnea. I know you can have mild moderate or severe sleep apnea. And actually, it can be brought on by certain things, or made much more severe. My pulmonary doctor told me that i may have had it during pregnancy, but not now. That the anesthesia may make it much worse, and they needed to be prepared, thus the sleep study.

I dont know about making aggervating it .. Its all a brain thing, so if you have it you have it , if its bad its bad. Stress, less sleep can cause you to have more epsidoes. My guess is they are doing it to see if you have a co morbity more than an ything.

I recently got diagnosed with sleep apnea. I've been using the cpap machine for a couple of weeks. I really don't feel any difference, since I didn't think I had a problem before? The doctor did say I would stop breathing up to 50 seconds at a time. I believe when I sleep on my back, it will aggravate it more than sleeping on my sides.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
