Princess Half Marathon

Recommended Posts

My surgery was on November 13th. I signed up for the Disney Princess Half Marathon for February 2013. Do you think that is too ambitious?

As long as your body is good with it, I'd say go (but talk to your surgeon just to make sure!). You'd be 3 months out, roughly, which should be more than long enough to lift any restrictions you were on, I'd imagine. Even if you end up not doing it, all that exercise would be great for your body, I'd imagine!

I was training for one and then had a foot injury. Then, of course, surgery was next. Just hoping I can get in enough food for the energy I need. I am 11 days out and feel so weak.

That would be my concern, and taking in enough Water. Eventually you certainly will be able to. But my worry is will you be able to soon enough to get trained. That all depends on your level of conditioning obviously. You might have one good month before that date to train hard. I that's enough then go for it. If not, maybe be prudent and look for another one down the road. Good luck. M

I cannot imagine doing a half after 3 months. I am 4 months out and was a runner prior to surgery (9 half marathons) and am just up to 7 miles. My issue is not the Water, but the gels you'll need during your half. I suffer from dumping and am concerned that the gels will make me dump (am going to test it this weekend). I also did not start walking/running until 9/22 and full running beginning of October. My next half is end of February and I am thrilled I have a good long time to train right and avoid injury. Please keep us posted!

I ran the princess half this year. I was exactly 1 year out. That being said, Disney is pretty flexible with times. You have 3:30 to finish. That is 3.7 on the treadmill. I would bring Protein Shakes to hydrate and constantly be sipping. I think you can do it as long as you are very very smart about it

I actually just set my mind to run it Feb 2014...since my surgery is Jan 2013 I didn't think it was realistic to do it this year but I can't wait until 2/14!!!

  • I'm so jealous!!!! That race looks like a lot of fun and I'm going to try to do it in 2014. You can always walk and just talk to your dr about the best ideas for hydration and refueling during the race because I think people usually eat something or have a gel midway through. Someone mentioned that Disney gives you 3.5 hours and I even thought it was 4 so that should be enough time. Good luck with your training!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
