Does Anyone Else Hate Eating?

Recommended Posts

I used to live and breathe by when I would get my next meal. I'd eat gargantuan portions and the smell of food got me salivating at every turn. Kind of like a junkie looking for their next fix to be quite honest with you all. food was SO delicious.

I must confess I can completely relate. My experience thus far is not at all what I thought it would be.

I'm 11 days post-op and I hate eating. It's not enjoyable for me, though admittedly I'm on "full liquids" at this stage. But I feel always full, I have no desire to eat AT ALL... my relationship with food is so broken.

Now, there's nothing. No appetite, no desire, no hunger, no growling stomach, nothing. If I wasn't for fear of dehydration or dying of starvation I'd be quite happy to sit for days and not put a thing in my mouth. It's *work* now to eat, it feels like a chore, and anything I eat sits there like a lead brick and gurgles uncomfortably, after which is 30 minutes of burping.

I know that I have to eat to heal and I have to get calories in so my metabolism isn't destroyed but I'm finding it really hard. :-(

OP, I know how you feel, girl. I don't wanna put it in my mouth.

OK' date=' I am 9months post op, never an issue at all since being sleeved, I just HATE eating. It isn't enjoyable at all. In fact, it actually feels more like work now than anything. I eat slow, take small bites, watch what I eat. It just feels gross when I eat, and I can still feel my sleeve moving when digesting (tmi, sorry). Milk tears my stomach up now, but I can still have cheese and yogurt.

Ya see, the issue is, I know I HAVE to eat, for health and nutrition, but I simply don't want to. My husband even mentioned that eating with me is depressing. He said I just look sad! Anyone else feel like this?[/quote']

I am so glad I found this post! I am starting to HATE eating too. It feels like its impossible to get all these fluids and foods down. Not only that the entire eating experience is unpleasant. It has become a daunting task. Between my ever moving stomach to feeling weird aches and pains when I eat I don't know if my body is telling me I'm full or what the heck is going on in there. I only get about 400-600 calories daily and that's with major effort.

I'm 5 weeks post op today, down 38lbs and yesterday I was too weak to go to work. Over the weekend I couldn't stand long enough to cook Breakfast or make a 30 min grocery run without laying down. My Dr's advice was "just do it. You have to eat". I left his office feeling as if they were more excited about how much I lost than this battle I find myself in now.

Ive never had a slave/master relationship with food. Yes I overate but could always get myself back on track through diet and exercise. My sleeve is my tool to help me succeed permanently, not yo-yo diet anymore, and control my blood pressure. My eating was never out of control. There is no joy in eating anymore for me and that doesn't mean I had some unhealthy relationship with food prior to the surgery. I eat now because I have to simply for health reasons and to fuel my body. And yes, I feel robbed of the pleasure of eating delicious meals. You may say you wish you had this problem but you don't.

When I saw my Nut, she suggested I start juicing with more veg. (Think Kale and Spinach), light fruit (1/2 a banana or 1/2 orange cuts the veg taste) and unflavored Protein Powder. Also, I like the chocolate Protein, with banana and Peanut Butter. It adds extra calories and nutrition. I got to the point where I wasn't losing anything because I couldn't get in enough calories, protein or Water. For fluids, I have started using the Mio energy. It's like crystal light but more fruity flavors, like blueberry lemonade. Good luck to everyone!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
