Protein Powder + Low Fat Milk = Too Many Calories? Help?!

Recommended Posts

Ok...I'm not sure if I'm over thinking this. Or maybe I'm not that good with numbers. But I'm 5 days post op...on a full liquid diet and required/expected to get in 6 "meals" a day. 3 of them must be 8 oz Protein Shakes with 20-30 hm of Protein per serving. Now my calorie goal is 400-600 calories a day. But one 8 oz Protein Drink contains 210 calories...drinking that 3 times a day is about 630 calories. I've already exceeded my caloric intake with the shakes alone! This does not include the "breakfast, lunch and dinner" full liquid meals! Am I doing something wrong??

Oh and when I say one Protein drink is 210 calories that include one scoop of powder (100 calories) plus one 8 oz cup of lactaid low fat milk (110 calories)

You might want to try different proteints. Some Protein Shakes are less calories even when mixed with skim milk. I use non-fat. Some will use half milk, half Water. Some Proteins still taste good with all water.

Thanks for all the tips! I guess what kinda through me for a loop is that I'm following the doctors orders EXACTLY... I'm using their sample menu exactly as its written and I wonder if they are aware of the misinformation printed on the menus

I used unsweetened almond milk at the beginning as well! One shake was 150 calories. And look into ready to drink ones. Muscle milk (my fave) light version is only 100 calories and I think 170 for the reg kind. Good luck:)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
