December Surgeries?

Recommended Posts

Hello December Sleevers! I had surgery on Monday 12/10. The only things I remember from before the surgery was talking to the drs and nurses. And my husband saying everything was going to be find. Then I woke up in my room. I had to stay until Wednesday the 12th due heartburn and reflux with nausea. But I'm home and doing much better. I was stunned to find that I haven't been hungry ONCE. My husband keeps asking me if I feel hungry and I keep telling him no. I am doing my best to get my fluids in and I think I'm doing pretty well. One tip I can give you all that has been a HUGE help to me is go for hot liquids vs cold ones. I've been drinking a lot of decaff flavored hot tea (i haven't made it thru a full mug yet) and broth; chicken or vegetable mixed with some Water. The hot Fluid goes down much more smoothly. Anyway; good luck to everyone! :D

I had to stop the pain meds after day 3, they were taking me waaaaaaaay to far out of my head. So mostly suffering.

Hang in there they say it get much better by day 10.

I stopped the meds after I got discharged from the hospital; the taste is SO bad, I tried them once when I got home and then I had the craziest dreams. Now I don't have too much pain it's just the sleepiness. No energy; but I'm working on it. We're slowly but surely decorating our Christmas tree.

Listening to you all I'm thinking I'm doing terribly. I had my surgery on 12/10. I have been in pain ever since. I have this one lap site- the one most of the surgery was done through- it hurts so much- it's even sucked in a little bit- like the skin and fat and muscle is buckled like it sutured really tight in there. If it weren't for that- I don't think I would need the pain meds- but I've been using them religiously because if I don't- I'm in terrible pain. Sometimes intake half the Vicodin half just regular Tylenol- that seems to help. Gas pain is annoying but I'm dealing with it. I've been staying hydrated but haven't had a BM yet. I think I'm going to do a dulcolax suppository for that today. I'm not doing bad- I just don't feel like I'm doing great. :-( you all seem to be doing great. I can't wait to get to the point where I feel we'll again. I am not doing that great with full liquids- they nauseate me a bit. I handle the clears much better. One thing I can say is that thankfully I'm not vomiting & I haven't vomited once. Please pray for me.

Laura,

I have been uncomfortable since the 6th. I developed an allergy to the glue and the swelling, and itching have spread over my entire stomach and starteed toward my back. i went and got prescriptions yesterday and stated on anti-biotics.

So you are not alone, my friend. I have been having to go back on the pain meds in order to get some sleep at night. The itching drives me out of my mind!

BUT, none the less, I am still doing well. I have had no problem getting my liquids and Proteins in.

I have lost 16 pounds since the 6th.

So keep the faith. Try not to compare yourself to others just keep on keepin' on. Doing your best, is good enough, you will get through it.

Peace, Ainslee

I was sleeved 12/10 & I'm miserable! I was supposed to be on full liquids but can't swallow them with out them feeling like they get stuck, so had to switch back to Clear Liquids. My main incision site hurts very bad & I honestly have had moments I've regretted doing this.. I hope I get to where others are soon because this is awful! :(

I understand. It's rough. This sh*t ain't easy!! I have faith that it will get easier as we go. Just not so easy yet that's for sure. When I eat I have to wait long periods between bites cuz my sleeve cramps & it hurts. Seems to be gas.

I am 4 days post-op. I take my pain meds right on schedule!! I don't want to be in pain..lol. My biggest incision is like someone else said kind if sinks in and above it sticks out. I do have a drain on the same side as well. The big incision is the only one that hurts too. If it wasn't for that I'd probably rarely need my pain meds. Doing good on liquids. Haven't really ventured out to a bunch of choices they have on the full liquid diet just making sure I stay hydrated like my doc said. I go back on Tuesday to have the drain removed:)

Oh and my stomach itches as well. I don't know if the glue is causing it or what. I've had glue on me before when I had my gallbladder removed. I remember my stomach itching then too but I know itching also means it's healing as well.

I was sleeved on dec 13th, how soon did you begin to feel normal again? I feel ok, but when I drink liquid it feels like it gets stuck in my throat. It seems it gets better as each day goes by.

I'm was sleeved on dec 5 (so 11 days post op?) about day 5 I felt like I could finally drink/sip without hurting and move around a little better...gets better day by day. Listen to your body. The rumbles and stomach movement. With me I feel a pressure in my upper throat/ chest that I've learned is my 'signal' even on liquids or cream Soups (still on those) I seem to be opposite from most in that really cold or semi room temp water/liquids go down sooo much easier for me thank warm (warm for me causes gurgling and rumbly tummy)

It gets better day by day! Hang in there. :-)

I was sleeved 12/4. Two night stay in hospital (no complications, just my drs routine stay). I was a but nauseated day 2, but what do you expect after drinking that nasty stuff for the leak test?! Anyway, came home and took my pain meds a couple times, mostly at night to make sure I slept but I also had the most bizarre dreams so I stopped. I'm now almost 2 weeks out and completely pain free. Exhausted, working hard to get Water and Protein in and hoping that helps with energy.

Yeah those crazy dreams....I couldn't take it LOL. I went back to work today and it's the first time I have been out since I got home last Wednesday; I discovered that driving makes me sick to my stomach. I called the dr and he called in sublingual med for me so i can drive and not throw up all the way in. But I reallyc an't complain about anything else. I'm SO looking forward to the soft/mushy food stage!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
