I didn't mean to be offensive as I am greatly concerned, But being in the medical field as am I, I didn't expect to hear that a medical professional would seek advice here on such an urgent matter and then respond in a unurgent manner ..that's all. There are so many that come here before surgery to see if this is the right choice to make.Complications do happen..I'm not ignoring that..some just look for a cyber fight wherever they can find it..sad

I'm not sure what would make you say that. This person is obviously having a tough time. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all! Have you had the surgery? If not, you have no right to comment. If you have, think yourself lucky that you didn't have these complications!

You're one of the reasons I hate people!

No need to hate "people"

This is where I take my leave. So sad there are people with no compassion or respect for others.

Lux531 I hope you feel better soon and this all turns out just to be one bump (if not a huge bump) in the road along your journey to weight loss and health.

Asleeve for me if you read my original post it is not asking for advise but simply stating what has happened to me & my situation & asking pre sleevers to be sure to know what COULD happen. I did not mean for it to come across as urgent or a call for help thanks

I've been posting on this forum for some time my dear...I am not looking for a fight, but I also won't stand for someone dissing someone who is suffering. Complications to this surgery are many and they are scary. Your comments were offensive. If you didn't mean that, try an "I'm sorry" to the OP as you obviously went far afield of the original intent of this thread.

Iggy Chic..looks like to me all you have done on this forum lately is try to discourage others from having this surgery and it's simply not right. Nothing you say can justify that and I WONT stand for that! If anything you owe presleevers an apology for your negativity and disgusting display of character."It wasn't worth the risks and pain","You would never do this surgery again", "You will always feel guilt about having it done"? Really? Stop it!!Stop scaring other presleevers!!!!!It gets better and you know it!!!If that's all you want to do here, find another forum! This IS NOT THE PLACE DEAR!!!!!.......................PEACE AND LOVE!!!:)

All I can say is wow! I am pre sleeve and I do like to hear it all from people who have actually had the surgery. I want to be sure that I know all possible complications. Some of the things that you learn on this forum your surgeon is not going to tell you.

Actually my dear, if my story scares people from having the surgery, then they are not ready to have it. My goal is to educate people as to the risks because I went into it with rose colored glasses and it nearly killed me. You of course don't know my story, having been so inactive in the forum, but my struggles were well documented here. This is a major life choice and we all have different opinions about what is right in our life. My choice caused my son to suffer as well as my family and of course myself. I deeply regret it and definitely wouldn't do it again. The guilt I feel is due to the fact that my son, who has special needs (feeding disorder) nearly lost his primary care giver and of course his mother. Any decent mother would likely feel that same guilt. His feeding progress went miles backwards while I was unable to care for him for almost two months.

If I was complaining about the normal tightness in your chest or the restrictive feeling, or not eating some food, your like of "it gets better" might make sense. That's normal stuff that we should all expect with the surgery, but while my body may heal from the trauma it went through eventually, that does not erase the negatives, so no, it does not get better necessarily. It was bad and that won't change.

I still face another possible surgery and have long term damage to my lungs. This is a product of the complications of WLS. There is NO BETTER place to share that experience than a WLS board darling. And if reading my story helps someone make a decision, than I feel I'm doing them a favor. Typically what my story does is prompt a pm where I share how to prepare for the worst, and hope you never need it.

Education is never a bad thing. If the world went by your philosophy we would leave out WWII and all the evil Hitler did. Good and bad...it makes the world go around and learning about all of it is important to being a part of it.

Well said Iggy!!! I couldn't agree with you more that if your story scares somebody then they are not ready to have the surgery. Bad things can and do happen! Just because they didn't happen to us doesn't mean they don't happen. This is where compassion comes into play. Congratulations to ASleeve for having uncomplicated surgery (if she did indeed have surgery) but that does not take away from the fact that more than a few people will have complications from the surgery. It's them we should support more than the ones saying"oh, the gas pain is so bad!".

I'm more or less going to stay out of this as I've already made my opinion very clear before... I do want to say though to the ones claiming that if this scares you so bad you aren't ready... I personally think that's a bunch of bull! I was terrified when I went in for my surgery and I cried until they took me into the OR, but I was clearly more researched and prepared than quite a few people that claim they know more. I was also terrified when I gave birth to my oldest daughter... as a matter of fact I had a full blown panic attack while pushing - She's 11 now and I still remember thinking that I couldn't do it or that I'd break her somehow. The truth about fear is that it is often an irrational yet natural response to stress and you can't control it. This is even more so true for people like myself who have a need to be in control of ourselves when we are suddenly putting our life in another's hands... That said, I don't think for a moment that you can place someone else in your shoes and say that because you weren't ready, they aren't ready when they are having a normal psychological reaction to what may be the most stressful decision of their life.

Barb...I'm sorry if my comment came off the way it did apparently to you. What I mean is if a story like mine scares you out of having the surgery (meaning you opt to not have it) than obviously you aren't ready. But I strongly agree with you that being scared is a normal and natural reaction to having any major procedure. I'd actually say that's an incredibly HEALTHY fear that people should have when they take such a huge step. I was scared when I went in as well...and petrified when I had an emergency c-section with my son. That's totally healthy and normal :) I'd actually say it's the intelligent reaction verses blind faith...but now someone will say that that's what they had and I'm wrong to say that LOL and then where will I be?

I agree with your sentiments entirely though. I was saying if you read bad things and opt not to go forward. K? Did that make more sense?

A good choice to edit out the womp womp womp response. Do me a favor honey, don't comment on my posts. You aren't doing yourself any good. I hope for your sake that you don't have the experience I had in your surgery so that you can maintain your lack of compassion for others. I honestly don't want even my worst enemy to suffer a complication story even half as negative as mine was.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
