Know this has probably been a topic broached a million times here so sorry for asking again.

But tell me about coffee. When were you able to drink it? If ordering from a place like DD or SB what would you order.

Prior to the surgery I drank it every single day. Every kind you can think of. Lattes, capps, frappe etc etc. now I'm wanting a cup of coffee SO bad I'm going crazy.

Thanks in advance for your advice and opinions

coffee can be a diruetic so I believe this is why they limit it. I drink Decaf a couple of times a week. I think if you limit it to once a day, and make sure you get in all of your Water, you should be fine.

If I want to treat myself to the taste of coffee I order Decaf. For example at SB and DD I order non fat decaf sugar free lattes. Since I haven't had caffeine or pure sugar in forever I can't taste a big difference. I HATE drinking my calories but I only have it once or twice a month. If you have a smart phone download the Starbucks app and you can create your own drink and it will calculate the nutritional value. Helps to see 250+ calories to make you curb your desire for it.

I was allowed to have coffee starting a week after surgery. For quite a while I added one shot to my Protein Drink each day. It really helped the flavor! Now that I am six months out I often have a 12 oz nonfat latte. The bad thing is that I add one pump of sweetener (20 calories, the real deal). I can live with myself doing that, although it would be an absolute NO for many. I would recommend never tasting coffee with real sweetener again!

I have had an espresso with milk every morning since about six weeks after surgery. I have a double shot of espresso with about 16 oz of 1% milk. The milk has Protein and Calcium that I need, and I am fine with the calories as they all come from the milk. I use Splenda to sweeten.

I heard that too about the ulcers, but I had four years with coffee and the lap band, and I never got an ulcer. I'm not willing to give up coffee, and it hasn't seemed to affect my ability to lose weight. I have lost 65 pounds and still losing.

coffee is a diruetic - if/when you drink - down lots of extra Fluid

i was never a big coffee drinker - but as the weather gets colder, i enjoy ONE cup of DD - i go inside and fix it myself - put in the sweet 'N low - then 1/2 of one of those small Creamers (1/2 & 1/2) not the real cream stuff

i am drinking the regular - not the Decaf - i drink it so seldomly i rationalize its ok

having one of those lates (msp) frats, expresso - once in a blue moon won't kill you either

open invitation to all - come over to my house any day , we'll have a coffee clutch!!!! ;)

A Tall Skinny Latte (Fat-Free &Sugar-Free & no whipped cream) at SB's is only 100 calories. Well worth it 3-4 times a week. And there is the Protein aspect with the milk. I just ordered a Nespresso Espresso maker so I can make my own ($25/week at SB's is getting ridiculous!). It makes Espresso and steams the milk (nonfat of course). I can add my own sugar free syrups....... Can't wait for it to get here!!!

Do you no how many calories are in a grande skinny vanilla or cinnamon dulce? These are good to have if the calories are ok.

Check out StarBuck's website - they have nutrition listed for all of their drinks. Can be a bit tedious to find the one you're looking for but worth it since it will show Protein & carbs too if you're tracking those.

coffee is not on my program at all, much to my frustration, so I started to ponder why. I didn't think it was the ulcer thing because we are taking PPIs. I questioned the diuretic thing because we are drinking a lot of fluids. Or it could be that caffeine is a stimulant, thereby causing some to be stimulated into eating by it (a stretch?) My next question was what if caffeine had an impact on blood sugar/glucose, which appears to make more sense. So I looked at some studies.

http://care.diabetes...27/12/2990.full

http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC1464218/

It seems from those studies that the only real impact is to those with Type 2 diabetes or those that ingest extremely large quantities.

Then there is this double blind study which finds caffeine intake reduces insulin sensitivity; the effect persists for at least a week and is evident up to 12 hours after administration."

http://www.sciencedi...026049507002752

That pretty much says (insulin resistance) that there is an impact resulting in metabolic syndrome, which is part of our problem.

"In simple terms, this combination of insulin-resistance and insulin over-production leads to two common outcomes: diabetes, or obesity combined with high cholesterol and increased rates of heart disease."

I would love to see another interpretation of these studies.

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
