I never started a formal exercise program (for personal reasons) till nine months post-op, and by then I'd lost most of my excess weight. Weight-loss is at least 80% diet, 20% exercise.

Personally speaking, I lost close to 80 poounds without exercising. Im currently at 216 pounds, down from my all time high of 337. My diet was 120g Protein a day, 20g carb a day, 20g fat a day. My normaly daily caloric intake was anywhere from 500 calories to 700 calories.

Honestly, I would say that this is not ideal - simply because now that I am back at the gym, my endurance and strength are severely diminished. Prior to surgery, I lost 40 pounds on the 6 month diet/exercise regime that my nut put me on. I was doing about an hour an a half a day, 5-6 days a week. Currently, im doing 45 minutes or so 3-4 times a week. Its a process building back up.

I would definitely say that the sooner you start, the better off you will be and the more muscle mass and general endurance you will preserve.

You also get a much better figure when you work out. I don't like exercise but I feel AMAZONG when I exercise and I look much better too.

Edited to add that I mean resistance training, not cardio. Although I do both.

Exercise is only 20% of the whole weight loss picture, but an important part in my opinion. I have lost 120 pounds and no one believes I still weigh 173. My tummy is flat, not much loose skin, my shoulders are toned, I have noticeable biceps and calves. Not to mention it makes you feel better. And good for your overall well being. Why would you go through all this if not to be at your best? Even 2-3 days a week 45 minutes each time will help.

My husband thinks I've lost a ton of weight but I've really lost a crap load of inches. The good thing about exercising is even when you don't lose weight, you will lose a lot of inches. One time I lost 2 lbs but I dropped a pants size. I've also struggled with anxiety and exercise helps keep it under control, plus I'm less grouchy after kicking my butt. I prefer to walk/jog outside in the fresh air and sun. I lift weights once a week but I plan to up that to 2 days a week, and I'm upping my cardio to 5 days a week. I walk 3 miles about 3 times a week with my dog. I'm sure you can lose weight without exercise but you might end up with more loose skin, than a person who exercises. YOu don't have to kill yourself but being active is a good thing.

Get more active is the key I think. Some do this in the gym some go hiking. Exercise is not just working out. Just move and build on that you will be please where that leads.

I haven't started exercising EXERCISING yet (i just bought 2 pilates dvds from Amazon this morning). I have been parking further out when I go to stores or work etc. I've also tried to speed up my pace. The dvd's are due in on the 2nd--I figure New Year; New ME!

I'd recommend you do SOMETHING you'll have to wrap your head around this full lifestyle change. Incorporating exercise as early as the Dr. says its safe to do so will help you get through this adjustment a whole lot easier. I'm not saying you have to jump into a P90X routine, but even a brisk walk in the evenings will help tremendously. It will also help take some if the "edge" off because this whole procedure is so taxing on the psyche

I agree with fluffylibra30. You can certainly lose the weight without exercising but you get a much better luck if you incorporate exercise. I am at 177lbs wearing a size 10 because I have exercised and toned up losing alot of inches. My initial size goal was a size 11 as I thought that was in line with my goal weight of 155lbs.

Also as we get closer to our goal weight and farther from our surgery date...the weight loss will slow down yet we will also begin to incorporate more foods into our diets. In order to ensure that I reach and maintain goal, I want exercise to be a daily part of my routine. I know I want to have boob surgery when all is said and done but if I can minimize the need for any other surgeries...i.e. arms...inner thighs...and boot lift by putting some time in with the treadmill...weights and squats well I am all for putting sweat equity in...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
