Ok,I have assumed that. But do they expect you to actually stick to the 1000 or 1200 cals for 6 months and dont people lose just to much weight to qualify for surgery then?

Just asking because I lost 70 pounds in 6 months on a 1500 cal diet that I really followed by the book.

Again,Im just trying to understand what makes the patient qualify? Is it the success with the diet?

I assumed they wanted me to start this diet asap. And yes I understand it is for insurance purpose what I don't understand is why my diet is so strick compared to everyone else.

JWaller Not sure why either I would change Dr.

Dessertmom: I think it is to make sure you are capaple of making the effort for the first 6 months post op and be dedicated to being diciplied during the critical months. I have not stuck to the 1200 everyday. I have however given my best effort

You would think that theire would be hard and fast rules to follow to get this surgery. There are not!. My insurance told me they just wanted a letter of approval from my primary care doctor. No other requirements. It's my surgeon that has all the requirements, including losing 10 percent of excess body weight prior to surgery. The use the first weight they took the day of our first appointment.

Other insurances require different things, like 12, 6, or 3 month supervised weight-ins/nutrition visits.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
