October Sleevers-How Ya Doin?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was 10/2....I've lost a total of 37 lbs. - starting weight 272 current 235 - I feel GREAT....still wearing my 22's but they are making me look like a bag lady - just haven't had the chance to shop yet...........I had 2 whole weeks of NOTHING lost and that was hard/frustrating, I'm getting in my Water now and have always gotten all my Protein....I think that I may have the problem of not eating enough....I don't EVER feel hungry so eating is something that I need to remind myself to do...and sometimes I don't (definately need to work on this)

one of my favorite lunches (fast and easy) wrap a weight watchers cheese stick in a piece of ham/turkey and I'm good to go!!

It's funny to fix a plate now...the amount of food that I'm used to putting on my plate to what i put on my plate now...and honestly it's still too much...my family likes to make fun of me saying that I like to put food on my plate to "pretend" I'm going to eat it

Congrats to everyone! Hope everything continues to go well.

I was sleeved yesterday. how long does your belly feel sore? Did you have trouble getting your liquids in the first few pre/ op days?

I am 15 days out and still having a hard time. I got no liquids in me the first 5 days and remained on the IV. They said it takes time. I am now able to get about 30 ozs of liquid in. No food. Good luck

Sleeved on 10/1 and have lost a total of 27lbs. Surgery weight of 316, currently 289 which is 75lbs down since my highest this August. The process has been great so far, but I'm worried about the 99lbs I have to lose to make my goal weight. Time to hit the gym, I guess.

I was sleeved October 30th and I am down 17 pounds in a week. I am not really eating I can only get in about 5 bites a day I called the dr and he said not to worry just worry about getting the fluids down and I feel so drained all the time I have no energy whatsoever I'm always so tired if I go to the store I have to use a motorized wheelchair. I know I'm only a week out should I start to worry any thoughts. One week follow up tomorrow hope all goes well oh and belly still sore

I had my surgery on Oct. 15th, I still can't get enough Protein in.I'm suppose to go back to work next week, but I just don't know how with no energy. Everything that goes in usually comes right back up :-(

I was sleeved 10/18, and I am hungry all the freakin time! I am only down 15 and am still in the same clothes which are still tight. :(

I haven't had a problem getting fluids in or my Protein shakes, but I do eat cheese and I dont think I should. I am a cheesaholic, it sits in my stomach nice along with anything else I eat. I have had no problems with anything which really kinda sucks to be honest. I wanted that, I don't like food anymore feeling, but never got it. :(

Everyone is losing weight like crazy, and me, well I'm sitting at the same weight for a few days now. I know I'm not supposed to compare myself to everyone else, but it still gets upsetting when you read everyone else's weightloss.

I'm still on full liquids, but have been eating pureed egg salad and pureed ham or turkey, I thought maybe that would help with weightloss, but nothin! I dont know, what gives!?

Oct 23rd here too! Feel really good. Started soft foods today. Can't believe how little I can eat. Made some turkey chili and could do less than a 1/4 cup. Baked ricotta (which I've been waiting to try since I was preop!!!) delicious but 5 bites and done. Down 20.5 total but 13 of that preop. Still working on getting my Water in.

I'm 4 weeks out I lost abut 30lbs I guess it's not bad when I read other people progress I'm gassy, hungry, and constipated my sense of smell has been heightened I have been eating chicken and salmon and yogurt to get more Protein I'm sooooo regretting having the sleeve done i hope its just a phase I hope I found someone who can relate and not discouraging anyone from pursuing the VSG I'm just looking for support

Charchar don't get discourage about this journey everything your saying sounds very familiar and about the leak your past that phase and about the leak I read in Dr.Alvarez book is that if you don't get a leak within the first two weeks the chances of getting one after are very slight I also talk to my doc about that and he said the same thing so things will get better I'm having the same issues as your but I try to stay positive and say to myself that it will all be worth it at the end. So keep positive:)

Sleeved Oct 10th here! I'm down 53 lbs today. WOHOO! Feeling awesome.

I'm still on pureed foods. I was trying to rush into regular food buy Monday my surgeon was like "why are you rushing to get back to normal when you aren't normal yet? OMG he's right! So I'm slowing down and maximizing my weight loss now. Goal is 100# by Christmas.

My surgeon & wife think I can do it & so do I!

I was sleeved on 10/23. Pre-pre-op lost 28 lbs over couple years, pre-op diet lost 11 lbs, since surgery I have lost 18 lbs (not counting the gaining and loosing 23 lbs from the hospital stay). No nausea, no vomiting. Trying to figure out when I need to eat, and working through not eating when my sleeve feels full and my mouth still wants to chomp on something. I am excited bout feeling the inches coming off. I want to keep a slow steady pace. I do want to know how far along folks were before they tried the muffin lasagna recipe???

I just saw my surgeon yesterday and he commented on this exact thing. He said my body is different now I am working to retrain my brain. He said the object is not to feel or get full. That is what we did before and the goal of eating is not to feel FULL. The goal is to not be hungry.

I told him I was eating 1 egg for Breakfast with a little cheese and I was full. He told me to eat half the egg & wait 5-10 minutes. If i'm not hungry' date=' don't finish it. He kept stressing that feeling full is not the goal of eating.[/quote']

Oh. That's good advice. I was told to stop eating at first sign of being full. I do get hungry, but it is hard to feel full. Some foods I could eat without ever feeling full, but other food I get full right away. It's a bit odd. I'll keep your doctor's advice in mind, though...just don't be hungry. Don't eat until you're full.

Sleeve date: Oct. 15. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
