I personally don't know any of the doctors in Mexico, but if you do a search above for doctors in mexico, you will come across several threads that might be of some help. Good luck!

I went to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali (I live in LA, so it was pretty easy to get to) and had a wonderful experience. I haven't read a negative experience about him or his team.

He has a few websites and a yahoo group -- www.mexicolapband.com

I am planning on having my surgery early next year in MX. Right now I am leaning toward Dr. Ortiz. His website is

<LI class=first>www.obesitycontrolcenter.com/ about_dr_ortiz.html and his rate is $8,500 and that includes everything but airfare (hotel, transpo, etc.).

I also considering Dr. Kuri and Dr. Rumbaut.

Dr. Kuri-

<LI class=first>www.lapbandsurgery.com

Dr. Rumbaut- around $10,500

<LI class=first>www.gastricband.com/html/team.html

Good luck...

One really important word of caution....AFTERCARE. I live in D/FW too and cannot stress enough that BEFORE you go to Mexico, you need to have a local band doctor lined up for fills. With the band, aftercare is EVERYTHING. Many US doctors will not do fills for a patient banded in Mexico.

I am also in Dallas and I went to Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey, Mex. He is very experienced and I am more than pleased. Go to Ready4Achange.

He offers three packages to choose from. I took the $8,500 one and paid my airfare which was about $430.

For fill doctors there is Dr. Maese who is Dr. Sanchezs' nephew, he has two offices, one in North Dallas, the other in Ferris. The other fill Dr is Dr. Dobson.

Dr. Stephanie is located in Bryan and is also banded. There may be others in the area, these are the 3 I know about.

Someone posted that Maese and Dobson would no longer accept patients without surgical records. I would call and check that out, then be sure you can get your records, if need be, from the surgeon.

My boss ran across this link when she was researching my surgery: www.litenfree.com

They have the prices listed. If I remember correctly, nothing was above $8500. I saw on a different thread that someone that had been banded in Mexico was going to Dr. Carter in Arlington for their fills. It stuck in my head because he did my band. Best of luck...

Carlene, I haven't heard anything about that, Dr. Sanchez gave me my records before I left Monterrey. Anyone having surgery should get/demand their records before they leave - there is no excuse why they shouldn't be given when a patient is released.

Like you said if there are people out here without records then they should contact Drs. Maese/Dr.Dobson and see if they will accept them or perhaps contact the surgeon that did the procedure.

Agarcia, hon, the sugery is just the first step in a very long journey. If you do not have good after care lines up, you are asking to fail. Just asking to fail. The band is not designed to work without a fill.

Are you planning to go to Mexico for your after care and your fills? I know that for some folk this will be a good solution, but not for others. A savings of $5,000 on your surgery will be destroyed if you cannot find any one to do your fills.

You need someone with a good track record for your fills too. Not just anyone can do them. They need to be specially trained by Inamed. This is very important, and I cannot stress this enough.

Good luck in your research.

Please remember sometimes it is better to spend a little more on the surgery, have it in the states, and have the same Dr. do the fills that did the surgery. This way you know you will have aftercare lined up.

I do understand that sometimes going out of the US is the only way to get the band, for some. If this is the case, I know my Dr. will accept Mexican bandsters and do their follow up care and adjustments.

Good Luck!

If you want a wonderful, caring, experienced, team choose Dr. Sanchez. He charges 8500.00 for everything and free fills for life and has done almost 7000 and uses the lowprofile if you want it and can get you in within 2 weeks notice.

I had the most fabulous experience with him and he'll send you with all of your records. I have a wonderful fill doctor here. I could find one as close as 1 hour but chose to drive 5 hours each way to use Dr. Curry as he is wonderful as well.

Pm me if you have any questions.

I had an excellent experience with going to Dr. de la Garza in Monterrey, MX (www.litenfree.com) I went by myself, had the surgery on Friday, and flew home to Houston on Sunday. My fills are done by my GP (also banded and trained in fills by Dr. Spivak) in Baytown...Good luck whatever option you take...

Hi TrueBluSue, I live in Baytown and was thinking about changing GP for the fills. How much does your GP charge for fills or does insurance cover it as part of the aftercare? My insurance carrier changed and now I'm stuck with having to pay out of pocket for fills with my doctor? Any help would be appreciated.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
