Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I'm 20 and getting sleeved in TJ, Mexico on December 13 by Dr.Lopez & Dr.Osuna. I was wondering if anyone here has experienced Hair loss after being sleeved...I love my hair :o lol! Or even if anyone has any general tips or advice for me being a pre-opper??

I'm 9 weeks out and no hair loss yet but I'm sure it's coming. I have been slacking on my Vitamins so thinking about going to get a pre-natal at GNC that has Biotin in it. Just remember how awesome my hair and nails were when pregnant taking those prenatals. I'm not eating very well either so I need my Vitamins for sure.

Anyway, good luck. My experience is Mexico was good so I don't have too much pre-op advice other than get your stitches taken out when they tell you too.

I loved/ love my hair also. I have used Biotin & silica to try to keep it and boost its growth. I am still losing my hair though. I have heard it passes ( the Hair loss ) after 7-9 months. So right now I just try to focus less on the hair and more on the clothing size I drop each month and wear a lot of ponytails. :)

Im going to be sleeved in TJ MX in feb/mar, but I has started taking my Vitamins already, Biotin, D3 and 2 multi gummies. I also have started walking a lot, just to get used to the routine.

I am excited too, not so much worried about the hair loss, that comes back. More excited to lose the fat that won't. :)

Congrats on the weight loss saritawillslim, That's great! I can't wait for mine to be melting off too lol. Applesauce sounds like a good idea, maybe I can bring some unsweetened ones or something :) yikes! I hope my hair doesn't come out wads! Hahaha that last part is so true, and as far as I've researched, the hair comes back! So it's a small price to pay temporarily :)

Thanks! I had no idea of what form to get Biotin in, but I'll look for it in pre-natal supplements too :) good to hear that your experience went well, there are definitely different opinions on the Mexico route on this website lol! How long after surgery were you advised to get your stitches out? Good luck on your weight loss :D

Is it enough to notice bald Patches? Or is it a less focused hair loss and just thinning? I think I could handle the thinning, but not the patches!! That's completely true, everyone keeps saying that it isn't a permanent thing. If you don't mind me asking, what form do you take Biotin in? Are there any odd side effects from it?! Can't wait to be shedding the clothing sizes either. Happy losing :P

I agree 100%! I am so excited for the weight to just fall off. I like the idea of taking the Vitamins before and walking, just to get your body used to the routine. I'm definitely going to start that here soon too :)

It is more of a thinning, I used to have very thick hair. I just buy my Biotin at Target 1000 mg that I take daily plus I noticed a smaller dose included in my multi Vitamin. No side effects from anything. I take a multi, Calcium, Omega 3, B12, milkthistle, prilosec and of course Biotin everyday. I also had my surgery in MX. You will be fine. Good Luck :)

I am 20 also and did experience Hair loss. About 2-3 months post-op I started getting nervous when my hair fell out in chunks. My shower drain would get clogged so bad. I started increasing my calories a little and that seemed to help. However, I never had any bald spots and no one could ever tell my hair thinned except me. But now I'm 8 months post-op and it seems that all my hair is all back again just like before surgery, if not healthier! :)

Tomorrow ill be 4 weeks post op. I was sleeved October 31st. I'm 23 from Cali.

I'm scared about the hair loss especially because I have thick hair. I'm taking Biotin and using shampoo/conditioner with Biotin in it.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
