I went for my first consult today for the sleeve. It went great. I wanted to know if most people need the second surgery (bypass) to achieve their goal weight. Can you achieve your goal weight with just the sleeve surgery?

I achieved my weight goal with only the sleeve surgery..... I was 254 when I started and I'm 145 as of this week. I am a "workout fiend" and am the low % that has had complications though so not sure that you really wanted me to respond. But sleeve has been successful for many ppl. Did your dr. try to say think of doing bypass instead?

He told me since I'm 28 and fairly young I should go for the sleeve.

Yes, it is possible, although I have not technically reached my goal I am close. I orignally shot for 180, I soon realized that was unresonable and not easily obtained. I have leveled out at 205 and am what I would consider slender, as I carry my weight well, I always have.

So again, yes it is possible and even if not totally obtainable you can get close.

IDK how far you have to go, but if you are motivated to do some working out, some logging, some Water drinking and some planning your meals... you can do whatever goal you set. And Rootman you look great. It's harder to get to goal the closer you get... but it's possible, you just have to be patient and keep working the program essentials. WLS is just a tool. It won't do all of it for you d9leigh... but it does work if you use it the way they tell you to! Best of luck to you!

I would say "yes." Depending on how much you need to lose and if there is going to be skin left over. Some people may have 20 lbs of skin that may keep them from that magical number.

I will say I have about 60-70 lbs to lose and 3 different bariatric surgeons attempted to sell me on the bypass. I personally feel that is too invasive for myself.

Wishing you the best!

Ya I know it's a great tool and I also realize whatever I do I'll need to be proactive about my health for it to work. :-)

I say ABSOLUTELY!!! I've lost 77 pounds in 5 months with the sleeve and I personally feel that with gastric bypass you have more of a chance to regain the weight. There is also more malabsorption of Vitamins in the intestines that you don't have with the sleeve. You still need to take vitamins but I believe the sleeve to be safer and better than the risks from gastric bypass. You still have to work the sleeve. Eat right, exercise, Protein first, and drink Water. :) I still have 64 pounds to go but I know I will get there!

I'm at goal and I've been maintaining for more than 6 months. There are quite a few of us out there. The thing with any of these operations is that is possible to not lose all the weight you want and it is possible to gain it all back. For me, gastric bypass was too invasive and had to many eating restrictions.

I do think your final weight will be influenced by your starting weight. My understanding is that when you are very heavy your bones thicken a bit to support the extra weight and that, along with extra skin, can add a few pounds that simply won't go away.

I really think it depends on how much you have to lose...I was 204 the day of the surgery and got to 144 with sleevie. My goal was 150 (normal BMI). So I needed to lose a total of 54 lbs. to get to goal. Granite, my highest weight was 234 then after my options class I got to 216. Then got to 204 day of surgery.

I'm only 6 months out, but thought I would weigh in (pun intended lol). With pre op diet, I am down 100 pounds. Started 275, am 175 now. I eat right... Most of the time... And exercise 3-5 days a week. 25 pounds from goal, so I think that with this tool, anything is possible

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
