Just got back from my post op doctors appointment. Sugery was on 11/12 and have lost 20 lbs including the week long preo-op diet. He said I can now start introducing soft foods!! Yay!! I am eating an egg tonight!

Honestly I didn't really have any gas pain or any nausea at all. Not really sure why but I'm thankful for it. The only pain I had was my left side and the largest incision pain but even that wasn't too bad. The hardest part is getting up and sitting down.

So happy for you! I bet you're counting down the days :)

I had my surgery on Monday morning and had mild gas pains in my chest Monday night and hardly any since. I thought gas would be much worse.

Be careful swallowing though, if I sip too big I get a sharp pain in the middle of my chest just beneath my sternum

That's normal. I had the same thing. Mr Dr gave me something called hychosomine. It helps so much with spasms. Maybe ask you dr?

Hi all. My procedure has been postponed. I was scheduled for November 15th, last Thursday. I started getting hives a few days after beginning my 2 week pre-op diet of liquid Protein drinks. They just kept getting worse. I know the hives were from something I ate. I was tested for allergies to whey and cassein which were negative, but I still think it was something in the drinks. Last Tuesday, I saw the surgeon who said she could still operate even if I had the rash and hives on my belly. My big concern, besides infection for being cut on the rashes was that the post op diet was also milk based. Neither my dietician nor the surgeon could suggest a non-milk product. On the day before the surgery, not only were the hives worse, but I also had extreme diarrhea. I made the decision to not have the surgery until I had a better idea as to what is going on with my body. I see a dermatologist in a week.

Funny, I sent an email out to about 6 people close to me that I would not be having the surgery. Four people responded that it was Great that I was not "going through with it." One even said "congratulations on my decision." I thought these people were behind me all the way. I guess not.

I know I made the right decision medically. I will continue on my path to lose weight and use all of the eating tools I've learned in the past 6 months; to eat slower, eat Protein first, not to use a straw, drink Water separate from meals, exercise, take Vitamins, etc. I've lost 29 pounds since I started this bariatric program, which is more than I ever lost at Weight Watchers. I can do so much more than before. I am on a positive path to a negative weight if that makes sense.

I wish all my fellow November Sleevesters the best of all. Know that I am behind your decision and understand and applaud your decision to make yourselves better. I hope this procedure is the tool for you to lose weight and to get yourselves to a place where you fell good and proud of yourselves. The gastric sleeve is the way to go.

Sending love to you all,

Kris

I feel your pain. I am a hive sufferer...I will say...since the surgery I haven't broken out since...They still don't know what caused my hives. I am hoping they are gone for good.

Good luck with your venture!

Anyone care to chime in on their Dr. recommend diet? I thought I could start yogart an creamed Soup phase this week. So I started on Monday - but appaently I misread the mountain of paperwork they gave me, because I was supposed to wait ANOTHER week to start this phase. (I had my followup appt. today and found that out). Here's the thing, as of today, I'm able to eat these two things just fine and I feel so much better have them - other than Clear Liquids and Protein Shakes (blah). So I'm gonna continue with them. I'm wonder where everyone else is that have been sleeved this month? Please chime in - each Dr. seems different in their approach to things now don't they.

Surgery is scheduled in less than a week and I have a terrible case of the "what ifs"! Not about the surgery but about after and all the changes physically and mentally. So much to think about....

Anyone else experiencing this?

Good luck and congrats to all the Novembers!

I totally have the what ifs! I also have the "maybe I don't need it's" my surgery is on nov 27. I am in the midst of my pre op diet and miserable :( but I keep looking in the mirror and reminding myself that I CAN do this. I don't want to look this way anymore.

Hello! My doctor had me on liquids for 10 days after surgery. He said no need to worry about Protein just yet---your body has enough stored for now. He also doesn't recommend Protein Shakes or anything like that though...

10 days after surgery they called me and told me I could then start eating purees.

I think if you are tolerating the foods and you're able to get your liquids in....I'd keep eating them. I can't imagine soup or yogurt damaging your sleeve a week out.

I'm jealous that you tolerate yogurt! My tummy hates it, so far.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
