Does Wl Really Stop At 6 Mos?!

Recommended Posts

Howdy! During my preop appts, I remember my surgeon saying how the first 6 months were pretty much the weight loss months..... and whatever came after that was just "extra". I am about to hit 6 months postop, and have not lost a pound for 4 weeks. ..... Although I feel amazing with my weightloss so far , I am worried I wont be able to lose my last 20.

I would also be interested in hearing about this. I've read so many success stories at 6 months but haven't seen nearly as much about weight loss afterward. I don't know that I can lose 90 pounds in 6 months if weight loss after may not be very likely.

NO

The first 6months or so is when you will lose the fastest but you continue loosing as long as you continue eating properly and exercising.

OT is correct. My surgeon hates the phrase 'honeymoon stage.' He says it discourages some people from trying after 6 months. If you still have weight to lose and you are working the program and exercising, it will still come off.

Typical estimates are that you will lose 50% of what you are going to lose in the first 6 months, then 25% over the 2nd 6months and the balance through the second year.

But there are many people that have made it to goal in 9 months or less.

I am almost 7 months out, and still losing. I have a lot left to lose. I am down 100lbs so far and the first 4 or 5 months the weight just melted off. Now i am having to work a little harder to keep it coming off at the pace i want. I am now excersizing 5 days a week, which is much easier now. My goal is to lose 50lbs in the second 6 months and another 50 in the third 6months. At 18 months i will decided what I have left to lose.

My goal is 100 lbs. total weight lost. I lost 75 lbs the first 6 months. I lost 20 lbs the 2nd 6 months. My current weight is 153-154. Now, after a year, I go up a lb, down a lb, up a lb, down a lb. and then finally lose a lb. Then the same thing happens for the next week. So, at 1 year, 2 weeks, I have 3 lbs. to go. I am happy with where I am now, but we'll see what the next 6 months accomplish.

I just had my 100 day session with NUT and she said 18 months. That surprised me. I thought we would be done after 12 months.

Now, I am also wondering if the power of the sleeve as a weight loss tool is with us forever. If we wanted to do the sleeve experience in, say, 10 years from now after a hypothetical weight gain, would it be possible? By this, I am asking if the sleeve will restrict and drop the lbs like it is doing now. Or is it a 1 shot deal?

Like everyone else has been saying, a few lucky people might get most of their weight off in 6 months, but most of us will take a lot longer. My doc said I could be at 155 from 383 within 18 months. If I were to lose all my extra weight in six months, I'd have to lose almost 10 pounds a week every week for 6 months. I wish!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
