My surgeon told me I'd be able to go home the next day. I wish i could go home the same day LOL! I hate hospitals!

My surgeon told me they keep you for at least one day to make sure your vital signs are okay, you can get help asap if needed and to check for leakage. I was released the next morning around 11 am. Better safe than sorry.

It wasn't fake. Pretty judgemental...She was on full liquids for 2 weeks. Walked around like she'd had nothing done. Did have incision soreness day 2-4 but nothing major. She's 15lbs down as of yesterday. She's 58, lower bmi (36 i think it was). Wish her surgeon was doing mine. He's a great guy. Dr. Clark in Virginia. Im headed to TJ.

didn't say it to be judgemental and yours wasn't the post to which I was referring. so, sorry if you were offended. Personally, I'm far too chicken (and sick) to do an outpatient sleeve. More power to those that do.

How soon after surgery can you sleep on your stomach?

I think it was about 5 weeks before it was comfortable to sleep on stomach for me. Generally I don't though. I find sleeping on back or side is much better.

I would not even consider having this surgery as an outpatient. No way, no how ! If, on the slim chance you have a complication (and no one, no matter how young/old, big/small, etc. is exempt from them) if you are not at a facility equipped to handle them you're in deep trouble. A leak, bad complication for sure... A blood clot (like a pulmonary embolism), a deadly complication if help isn't immediately accessible. No amount of money or convenience is worth your life. I'm not judging anyone, so don't anyone get all pissy, but this surgery just isn't a laid back walk in the park. It's something to be taken very, very seriously. I, for one, would run, not walk, if a surgeon even suggested doing it as an outpatient.

I think it all depends on the surgery center. Mine is literally attached by a tunnel to the main hospital, and I will stay over night. It ended up saving me $4,000 verses doing it across the street where I would stay an extra night. I will report back how it goes.

Outpatient surgery isnt common yet- but many of the nations top VSG surgeons are slowly trending that way with suitable candidates. My guess is that within 10 years the majority of VSG will be done as an outpatient procedure.

It's medical evolution- remember that 15 years ago getting your tonsills removed used to be a 2 day inpatient- now it's in and out before noon!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
