Nope Havent heard of it being out patient, usually at least is a two day hospital stay, I couldnt imagine having it and then going home in a few hrs. I havent have it yet, Nov 14th, but from everyone elses stories and from my friends who have had it done, they have been in the hospital longer than 2 days.

Has anyone heard or experienced an out patient sleeve?

I did for my first surgery. For the second (due to complications of the first) I was in a hospital.

i chose outpatient because i was so low risk and because i spent years in hospital when my son was a baby.

this is MAJOR surgery. a day surgical center is not properly equipped to handle serious complications. i needed a blood transfusion which i had to be sent to hospital for (in an ambulance in great pain at additional costs of course). this is not outpatient surgery. not in the US nor in Mexico. Have your surgery at a hospital....a good one!

I actually believe that I read a post around here somewhere that someon came home the same day with no complications no restrictions etc etc.. it sounded fake to me. I know some sleevers personally by 3 diff docs. Perhaps it's because it was the same facility but if you went in on monday, you didn't leave til tues evening. Also, it depended on the patient. Some of them stayed longer. but none were out sooner.

Thank you all for your input. I meet with my surgeon tomorrow morning and I will ask the my risk. Everyone keep telling because I'm a young patient and is on the small side of the bariatric world that everything will be fine, and if not the hospital is right up the road.

i am young, no comorbidities, active and was low bmi. no one is immune to complications and sometimes you cant take that quick ride up the road.....

My mom was sleeved 9/25. Went in, had surgery and on her way home by 2:30. Her doc says alot of US physicians are going this route for noncomplicated sleeves since you can rest and sip just as well if not better at home. She did great. She even went home on FULL liquids and at 2 weeks released to whatever food she wanted..not purees or soft. Regular food. She even ate steak pieces at 2 weeks! But she's doing great.

Also..she was sleeved in the US, low risk, fairly low bmi by a reputable surgeon in a major area hospital.

It wasn't fake. Pretty judgemental...She was on full liquids for 2 weeks. Walked around like she'd had nothing done. Did have incision soreness day 2-4 but nothing major. She's 15lbs down as of yesterday. She's 58, lower bmi (36 i think it was). Wish her surgeon was doing mine. He's a great guy. Dr. Clark in Virginia. Im headed to TJ.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
