Negatives Of Progressing To Fast With Food

I'm just curious. I've read so many threads on what people are eating and when. Every dr has a different program to follow, as does mine. However, I did try food that is beyond what's listed in my program. I haven't had any trouble with anything other than swallowing air when I eat. I've slowed way down and that doesn't seem to be as big of an issue. I am focusing on Protein and as long as I chew really really well and it gets a little watery, it goes down without issue and stays down. My question is..is there risk with progressing beyond the pureed/mushy stage to soon? I guess I am actually doing the work of the blender with my chewing..LOL but I don't see a down side to this. The biggest motivation for this has been getting off the shakes and working to get my protein from food instead, but supplementing with shakes when I can't. What are your thoughts on progressing to different foods?

I am 6 weeks out & was given the ok to proceed with a normal diet, in moderation, what my tummy can tolerate. So far, as long as I don't drink anything 30 min prior or 30 min after I eat I'm ok. Just chew really well & introduce foods slowly.

why would you not do what the dr. wants. Solid protien stays in the stomach and causes pressure liquid passes through. You paid alot of money for the dr. if you do not think he knows what needs to be done post op why get his information?

I started liquidizing meat in Soup to get my Proteins while on mushies as the shakes made me feel horribly sick..headache,tdeadly tired almost directly after I drank it.

I used to think well if it doesn't hurt it must be okay because I was ABLE to eat more than most. "My team" reminded me there's a reason for the stages and the quantities we are told (or given in our books). Your new smaller stomach is healing and that's why the rules. :)

Your reminder was very helpful. Quantity wise I can't eat much but I was eating outside of the range of food - mainly for dinner and to try to get my Protein in. I have tried to eat what I made for my family - even if it was 1 oz of meat, mushy veggies or part of a lasagna cupcake. I think I will back off and let things heal more. I felt so good I guess I lost sight of that. Thanks!

Omg girl! Don't post about this sleeve felony! The sleeve police on this board will chew you up and spit you out, so to speak!!! :) seriously tho, I was progressing super and was ready to get off the shakes so I called my dr. And got the ok to go ahead and try some new things and that was a good peace of mind. Congrats on doing well!!

I dont' think anyone explained the part of the pressure but it makes sense. I appreciate your comment.

Just to clear things up, I didn't go crazy with food or anything :). I was scheduled to start the pureed/mushy food yesterday and started with cottage cheese and mashed potatoes a few days early. The other stuff were one-time events over the last couple of days and I was just curious. Going forward, I'm sticking with the pureed foods, just to be safe. Thanks all.

Our phsycologist/ nutritionist this week in group, said to be careful about progressing too quickly- as there can be foods we try now (say cottage cheese or chicken, chewed up & emulsified), during a different phase- that can give us food allergies later on after our stomach's have healed... That our new stomach's need to be treated like a newborn babies- and introduce foods slowly.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
