Recommended Posts

What pre- and post- op services did your insurance cover? What I understand so far is the list below of what needs to be done.

Consultation

6-month diet

Physh eval

x-rays

EKG

Blood work

Follow-up visit with Dr.

Surgery

Hospital stay, etc.

Post-op visits

possibly more blood work

So far everything has been covered subject to my deductible and copays and co-insurance. I've made sure though to do it all in network. The nutritionist is employed by the surgeon and her services are included in his bills.

I also had UHC and they covered everything, after I met my deductible and out of pocket max.

I have UHC and plan to do a revision from lapband to sleeve. I am hoping for a fast approval. Anyone got a fast approval from UHC? I am certain my Dr will not make me go through everything again as we have already discussed.

I have UHC. To date they have covered everything you listed leaving me responsible only my co-insurance & co-pays until I hit my out of pocket. They have been beyond wonderful to deal with from my initial inquiries with the Optimum Health program onto to surgical approval.

Did you have to do 6 month diet?

I was told UhC has 2 plans - 1 that requires this and 1 that requires 5 yr weight history.... I'm PRAYING mine is the later. My coordinator is going to list my bmi of 40 w/2 com. Plus 5 yrs of weight history along with dietician visit, consult, recommendation medical necessity, and pysch eval next week. She said we should hear back within 2 weeks and will find out what they say.

Yes I did and it flew by! Honestly, the six month diet/nutrition plan was a very good idea as it gave me time to adjust to the idea of surgery.

Not sure what part of Houston you are in but check out the doctors at the methodist hospital/medical center. I had great success with them. Also if your version of UHC has access to the Optimum Health program - use it! It made everything a breeze for me plus if you really have no idea for a surgeon, they will give you a list of ones in-network.

Good luck!

Ok what is Optimum Health. My UhC never told me about them and they don't have bariatric resources but i received a letter in the mail from them saying I requested privacy documentation. I called and just was told it was bariatric complicated cases team. I filled out paperwork but have no idea who they are.

Optum Health is a care coordination service for long term medical issues, pregnancy, cardiac, kidney, bariatrics, asthma, that sort of thing. I am not sure if every UHC plan has it but mine did. They verified my coverage and sort of pre-qualified me. They were willing to provide me with a list of surgeon's but I went in with a name. In addition I had a RN case manager who contacted me every couple of months just to check on how I was doing. She was the one to call me with the final authorization before my surgeons' office could. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with them and recommend getting in touch if it is available.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
