When You Were 3 Months Post-Op Vsg How Many Pounds Had You Lost?

Recommended Posts

But I lost 47 pounds in 3 months the other was pre-op required by my insurance

that is still great. that puts you at about 179, right? ya gotta change your thinkin buddy. when was the last time that you were 179? the sleeve works differently for everyone. we knew before surgery that we weren't going to come out of the hospital with a hundred pound drop. it took us years to put on this weight, we can't expect it to fall off in 3 months. i know it sucks watchin the scale move (or not) very slowly, but hey, it's going in the right direction now! it won't be overnight, but it WILL be a reality that you make goal. i know it's dissappointing when you see other sleevers with higher numbers, but focus on the numbers that count. you have lost 47 pounds! that's freakin awesome.

on another note, have you been taking your measurements? when my scale stops moving, or is going really slow, it is those times that my body is doing other things. i went through a 2 week stall, where i actually GAINED 2 pounds (talk about wanting to throw the stupid scale out the window and drive over it repeatedly with the truck) but in those 2 weeks, i actually lost a full inch from my waist and 1/4 inch from my arms AND my thighs. then, the stall ended. there are a ton of things going on in your body right now. dont lose heart. you are doing great!

I gave current lost 98 lbs. My 3 month post op appointment is October 11th( OK, technically a few days past the 3 month mark because surgery was July 2 nd). I will probably lose about 5-10 lbs by then. I don't really exercise, but i do eat very cleanly and am strict about following "the plan" outlined by NUT and doctor.

I was sleeved 6/26/12 and I've lost 47 lbs since surgery. But 71 in total from my highest weight ever.

I started out at 245 and it took me three months to lose 45 lbs. I did everything according to plan - I stuck to around 600 calories, put in an hour at the gym six days per week, low carb, high Protein, lots of Water. You have no reason to be disappointed - if you are following the basic guidelines, losing weight (clearly you are)... What more could you ask for? I'm not sure where your expectation came from, but I think you should be very pleased.

How did you lose 98 lbs? I have not lost 30 pounds yet and I had on the same day. What am I doing wrong?

I tend to think it is the Protein Shake with Water i have before going to bed. Also, my exercise is pretty minimal at this stage as to not stress my body out too much with it already trying to figure if it is starving on the low carbs i consume. I also take a lot of Vitamin C daily to help with Vitamin absorption. My calories are between 600 and 800. I have noticed i can eat more now, but don't. I eat about 100 calories worth of Protein every 3 hours, with the exception of Breakfast where there is about 200 in shake because of light soy. I drink as much as i can during the day, usually 100+ oz. I try and sleep enough, but sometimes fail at this because of work. Overall i try and keep stress at a minimum in order to create an optimal env for body to relax and efficiently burn calories. I may be hypothesizing on some of this, but it appears to be working for me. Oh, and i do hit stalls and on some days i will lose 3 or 4 lbs. I just go with the flow and not stress over what is happening or not happening on this journey.

if that is really all you are eating you are likely in starvation mode. are you counting calories and your Protein? how many ounces in your shake? I would add another shake in there between meals.

So what does everyone's surgeon say about how much you will lose. I am losing slowly and I am trying to figure out if my expectations are unrealistic or my weight loss is less than expected? Oh--and my scale is a fickle little witch.....

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
