Has Anyone Had A Bad Experiece After Surgery

Recommended Posts

And would say they are sorry they did it. My husband just asked me to ask everyone. He thinks its so drastic and i think hes afraid for me. I think it would help him be more supportive we just celebrated 30 yrs????????

The worst part for me was the IV. :) I didn't even have gas pain. Five weeks out and no complications, no trouble drinking or eating, no change in taste buds... Extremely grateful and wishing you all the best in your new beginning!

I'm not sorry I had the sleeve but I wish I were loosing the weight as fast as I was lead to believe I would. My family was also very concerned about me having the surgery but they supported my decision. Best of luck to you :)

In all honesty, I would be worried if he wasn't afraid for you. To me that is a sign of love and concern. This is major surgery, it is not a joke and the aftermath is difficult and he'll be the one going through it with you. He has a right to be concerned but it appears that complications are the exception, not the norm.

Take a look around the forum, search "complications" and the threads where people discuss their problem should pop us.

Good luck!

I'm quite happy I was sleeved. It is definitely an adjustment to get used to, but I didn't have any bad experiences...the post-op pain was manageable, no complications, can eat any food without issues etc...

I am 2 weeks out. The first day I would have told you it was a mistake. I was hurting, i was nauseated, and I was thinking what have I done to my body and knew I could not undo the "damage".

I spent 2 nights in the hospital. I too have a very supportive, loving husband who took very good care of me and helped me to walk the hallways, and kept encouraging me.

By day 4 - the pain and nausea were gone. Now came the learning process: sipping fluids, avoiding dehydration, trying to get in the Protein shakes.

Today I left church and told my husband how thankful I am To be on this side of the surgery. I wore an outfit I haven't worn in two years. My husband said I was walking faster. And I am still making myself drink liquids, telling myself not to cheat and eat the biscuits I so badly want:).

Your husband is right to tell you to ask questions. For me I had to make a choice. I know myself well enough to know I do not have the self discipline to eat less and work out more to lose the weight I need to lose. I needed a tool to help me.

So i purchased one:)

The only bad thing that has happened to me is that I got a staff infection from one of my incisions. I will also state that this is completely my fault as well. I waited too long to get my sutures out and was way too active way to fast. I went back to work after three days and was climbing stairs and putting more pressure on my body then what I should have. The one major piece of advise that I can give you is to slow down and follow your doctor's orders. In hindsight, I wished I would have followed the instructions completely.

My complications were from the gas and extreme pain/problems with the drainage tube. I stayed in the hospital for a week. I was supposed to be confined to bed but was determined to do the walking and get myself home.

I have no regrets....never did...I knew that the pain and minor complications would subside and I would be on the path to better health!

Good Luck to you....my hubby was very concerned as well....so tell your spouse that's a normal feeling.

I am 3 days out and the 2nd day was really hard. I go back and forth thinking what did I do but pain makes you say crazy things. I wanted this, I needed this, and I am adjusting to this lifestyle. No regrets!

No regrets. I will admit (3) weeks of liquids post op was really tough...I had so much head hunger and I missed food so bad. And there are some days still that miss food, not because I can't eat certain things per se but more so that I can't eat in the volumes I want to. But I remind myself I wanted this for that very reason. The surgery makes you deal with your relationship with food and you finally are able to see just how much you had come to depend on food to get you through hunger, happiness, sadness, boredom, pretty much in any state except sleep...For me this part has been harder then the surgery itself. I pretty much had a textbook surgery so no really issues to report of in that respect.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
