How Did You Decide?

Sleeve vs Band? And is the weight loss faster with Sleeve? My date is oct 11th. Still cant believe it. Really nervous about all of the risks they list in the paperwork. Like reading a medicine bottle!

Well i Started the process in Decemeber origanally scheduled for the Band but after my first inital appt the nurse perfered the sleeve for me becasue the band is more to deal with and the sleeve you lose weight faster and im a very impatient person so the band weightloss would of been not good for me! im really happy for my decision after research and great success storied!!! i cant believe surgery is in 2.5 weeks...October 9th!!! :D

For me it was sleeve all the way. Haven't had it yet but the dr of the program at kaiser read of tons of statics for the 3 wls and the band has a high rate of removal and a 2d sugery. It has low weight loss in comparison and high regain stats. Sweden is one of the 1 countries to start this procedure and they are now at a 90% removal rate! Also kaiser did more removals last yr then placements of the band. So for me I was like heck no!!

I was on the fence for a while, i knew i didn't want the RNY but had never heard of the sleeve when I started this process. My doctor doesn't recommend the band if you are morbidly obese because the weight loss is slower and less. Also after the 1st 4 weeks the risk of complication drops for the sleeve, for the bad there is always a risk of complications, if you search this site there are a LOT of banders that switch to the sleeve because of complications.

It also seems like people who get the RNY or the band seem to gain the weight back. Sleevers don't seem to.

I knew from the beginning that RNY was out. If for no other reason than no one could give me a satisfactory answer about why after you have the pouch does the excess stomach have to "hang around" inside you... doing absolutely nothing? Plus a couple of friends have had complications with RNY and that was it for me - no thanks.

The band - well its just that - a band. Rubber band that has to be either loosened or tightened. It could possibly get lost in the intestines - no thank you - again.

Did research on the Sleeve and after about a year of trying to make up mind if I will have the surgery done (I knew it would be the sleeve hands down), the only question was when. If I don't need the extra stomach (its not doing me any favors) why should it after to hang out in me for life? I don't want it.

Sleevie ONEder (that's the name I gave it) & I have been best friends since June 26. :D. And we will continue that growth from now on. :)

Never the band. Ever. Look at statitics and you will clearly see why most surgeons do not even recommend anymore. 70% of patients have a revision or complete removal in 10 years. WHAT? That is crazy. Plus you get fills every three months which you get to pay for. You live like a bulimic and throw up most of your meals.

In my SoCal support group there are several revisionists who initally had the band. One of the admins on this board had her failed band removed.

Yikes. Take a look at the forum on here called Band to Sleeve. Read all the horror stories. Sleeve is not perfect but so much better than bypass or band.

Just know that the sleeve is not reversible so do not have surgery unless you are 100% positive. Confident you will find what is best for you. Good luck!

The classes that I have to take for Kaiser, we had the same question with the Why is it still in there? And they said its because they stomach is still functioning, and releases the 'juices' (all that stuff your stomach makes) into your intestines still, that help with digestion within the intestine. With the sleeve you still have enough of your stomach that it doesn't create a problem like the cup in RNY.

I had two consultations . I am self pay..........Dr Reyes suggested the band for about 14k. Dr Hilmy recommended the sleeve for $9,500. Dr Hilmy told me about the complications with the band. So this made it easy to choose the sleeve. I had surgery on August 29th and doing good.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
