Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Recommended Posts

So I've lost 46 lbs and able to wear 13 - 14 clothes. I'm still struggling as I know I am not getting my Protein in everyday like I should and haven't been able to exercise the way I should due to obligations and an unsupportive spouse. I am starting to get depressed because I am unhappy in my life. Not just the weight but life. I had just lost my job after being there 10 years when I had my surgery and now I am a different person living a different life. Is it wrong that I've changed and am no longer happy in my old life? My husband and I had problems before but now days all I think about how my life would be without him as my husband. You all probably think I'm a horrible person but I have no friends to talk to about this and cannot hold it in anymore.... Sorry.

Oh man! Sorry to hear about all of this. I have to admit- I feel very similar with the husband scenario. I'm trying like heck to fight through it all but it's not easy. Hang in there- Prayers and hugs

Just reading all your posts...been mia for a while with work and the Holidays. All in all most seem to be doing so well. Seriously, who gives you a box of chocolates knowing your history? Here's what you do...eat one and share with everyone you know. If you can't have a piece of chocolate life may very well not be worth it!!! Kidding. But seriously, there are treats in life and it's okay to have ONE.

Sorry to hear of the troubles that some of you are having with your hubbies. But deltrans is right, you just need to work on you for now. You don't have to be hateful to him but just be happy with you. You can't fix someone else, the only one you can fix is you. Whether it's your weight or your attitude, we are responsible for us. And perhaps as you improve he may be inspired to do better as well. I've been married 21 years...and there are days, but the majority are good ones. And we didn't get in this to get out of it. Not an option. So we make it work. Hang in there. Even if you are the only one doing the work right now. You are important which is why you had this surgery. No matter how things end up, you need to be healthy.

My mother is coming for Christmas next week. I'm freaking out!! She knows I had some surgery but not that I was sleeved. She's going to notice that I don't eat much. Nervous. She is so judgemental. And she will tell every living soul. And it's none of their freaking business!! This is mine. Just me. I didn't do it for them. And I don't want to share. I sound like a toddler. I'm already planning stuff just to keep her busy...so maybe she won't notice. Here's hoping.

green. i was told to get 1200 cals a day, i know i thought the same thing. somedays i can get there but most days i average 800-900cals a day. i suggest find something you really like and make it your lunch or dinner. like me i go to trader joes ive purchased things like teriyaki chicken, turkey corn dogs, orange chicken, shrimp fried rice, chicken egg rolls. and sometimes that still dont give me 1200 cals. i noticed through kaiser the last few weeks of 90 days they increased my portien from 2oz to 3oz so try that. i eat chobani yogart 1/2 cup now im going to increase it to 1 cup to add calories and hope i can fit it in my new tummy. let me give you a sample of what my breakfast and morning snack is. breakfast french toast, 1 piece of bacon and 1/4 cup of peach. i left a good piece of toast on my plate. morning snack is a baby bell cheese and 1/4 cup of sliced apples. havent planned lunch dinner yet. try some of the ideas. im losing 1-2lbs a week though so thats a little slow. but my nut said the slower the better our skin wont hang as much and we wont be at risk of gaining it back, its like our bodies adjust to that new wieght before it let go of somemore. :)

Hi all went to my 3 month appt today. Everything is going good. Dr is thrilled with my success. I have tons of heartburn so they upped My meds for that. He mention there would be Hair loss and he said your hair grows from the food u ate 3 months ago....so the people saying they are getting all there Protein and still losing hair it doesn't matter what you are eating the hair loss is from our month we had no protein. Now the protein u are eating will help with stopping the loss and it will not be as bad. So everyone is different but keep up with the protein. Ngrand. So good to see you on here you are really helping people every day!! Congrats on your success

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
