A Canadian "NSV" Thread

Recommended Posts

I was at Sobeys this morning with hubby....I saw an ex-member of my gym at the checkout with her daughter in the cart. I was ahead of her, she was talking to the person behind her. She quit the gym in early June to take the summer off because of her kids being out of school and said she'd be back in October....she hasn't seen me at all during that time.

I didn't want to interupt her but I said a few things to her little girl...she turned and looked to see who was talking her daughter and turned right back to the person she was talking to.

My husband and I were outside loading the truck....she came running across the parking lot yelling "Carol, is that you....I'm so sorry....I didn't recognize you, you look so different.....I thought I new that voice but couldn't place it". LOL

Congratulations, Cloe! That is a wonderful story. I am glad that your winter coat is now too big. I think that the NSVs drive home the fact of weight loss more than the scale victories for we are then experiencing weight loss in our daily lives, not just as numbers.

And congratulations to you, Woodys. That is a huge NSV! You are incognito now.

My NSV happened shortly after I read about Woodys's and Choe's. My husband told me he thought I was losing weight too fast! Hah! This means that he sees weight loss and that's a good thing.

Thats great green!!..........too fast???

Is there really such a thing as losing weight *too fast*!! I mean has anyone actually died from losing weight *too fast*. I know it can be not very healthy, but really, so what. I don't think I would ever be to concerned about too fast. LOL

Yah, I was totally pleased. Oh, I said, do you really think I'm losing weight too fast? Why do you say that? I must have made him repeat it about 3x. Of course I still haven't got my act together to buy a scale or a measuring tape so all I can go on are the NSVs, eh.

I am now officially allowed mushies so I bought some hummus in a can. I'm gonna make myself scrambled eggs with cheddar and salsa. First time I've cooked since I've been banded. Now that's gonna be weird!

Cloe sad that you only got to wear the coat once, but now you can go buy another one. That is a nice reward for losing all that weight.

Maria:)

Green Green Green Green: DANGNABIT!!!! BUY A MEASURING TAPE!!! Look at it this way; you already have a baseline for your weight because they took it for your surgery. But if you wait too long you will NOT have a baseline for your measurements!!! The opportunity will have been lost!

I'm telling you, it will make all the difference, motivation wise if you take the measurement once every month or so......DO IT NOW BEFORE YOU LOOOOOSE A WHOLE LOT!!!!!

Oh yeah, I forgot to say in my last there Green:

Since you are starting your mushies....I thought I would share with you one of my fave "mushie" foods. Take out some Beans from a can of re-fried beans....and heat it up with some shredded cheese and then mix in some sour creme and salsa....and voila! A Protein rich, filling meal!!!

For a snack, try some fat free bananna pudding with mushed up bananna in it!

Have fun with this stage.

caution: don't try blending a piece of pizza like Mr. Loriely!! LMAO

Congrats everyone on their NSVs.

Somewhere on this site is a clothing exchange if anyone is interested. Cloe, I'm sure your brand new coat would be very much appreciated by someone else who may not be able to afford to buy new clothing every time their weight changes. I am glad that I am able to wear uniforms at work. They are very forgiving, I could probably lose or gain 4 sizes before having to replace them.

Oooh Yoda, my name looks so good in Green! And you are right but I am blonde inside and out and I still haven't gotten around to it and so I am having to rely on those NSVs.

Well, I've been experiencing the good and the bad. The good is that my 2 most favourite pairs of baggy trousers are starting to get a little too baggy. I am now having trouble with crotch management. The bad news is that one of my best friends didn't notice a thing. Finally, after 4 hours he said that he thought that my stomach looked smaller. Initially he had said that he didn't see any difference. My Scottish cousin (who is over for a visit) didn't notice any difference but he tends to march to a different drummer. He did notice the price of the bag I was looking at a Winner's, though! LOL

I find myself on a bit of an emotional roller coaster when it comes to dealing with these responses or lack of responses to my perceived weight loss. I was banded on Sept. 7 and when people do remark on my weight loss I think that maybe I might be losing too quickly and that this will mean that I will lose my hair 6 months down the road. On the other hand, when my weight loss is invisible to them I am disappointed too. This is likely how we all feel but I thought that I would mention it.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
