Protein Drink & 3 Meals A Day?

Recommended Posts

I am a bit confused. Am I supposed to be eating 3 meals a day AND drinking 1-2 Protein Shakes a day? Or am I supposed to try to eat all my Protein and if i don't get 60 grams then I should have a drink? I'm almost 4 weeks postop and having no issues eating & drinking.

I am suppose get all my Protein in and stay between 600-700 calories daily while doing it. Does not matter if I drink some protein or not.

Hmmm...ok. My NUT never said anything about calories. I'll call her on Monday. Thanks!

My nutritionist said one Protein Shake per day and to get the rest of my Protein from lean protein choices. I get anywhere from 600- 900 calories per day. I've gotten 1100 calories on two occasions but I had two Protein Shakes that day.

I am 6months out and still have problems getting in enough Protein, so the Protein Shake helps me get close to my goal. I have also never been a big Breakfast eater, so i started Protein Shakes before surgery to get in breakfast.

At 4 weeks post op they may not be too worried about your calories because most people cannot eat too many calories at that point. I think it's par for the course to still have to drink some of your Protein at 4 weeks. Later down the road you can probably get it all from solid foods. I still enjoy a Protein Shake every day as an in between meal snack to tide me over.

My nut told me 3 meals a day and one Protein Shake. So I have breakfast at 730, lunch at 11, Protein shake at 2, and dinner at 630-7. I have loooong days. I drink Water the rest of the time and I have to have a glass of milk every day (I'm still nursing my infant). I'm 4 weeks out.

Ah! Ok. That makes sense. My NUT has never been into me counting calories. Carbs, yes, but nothing else. I'll see her in a few weeks and ask.

Thanks!

Wow! You do have looong days!! Yikes! And all that at 4 weeks out? How did you handle the exhaustion after surgery?

Thanks!

I napped as much as I could. I was burnt out a lot the first couple of weeks. I was dehydrated and only getting in 30-40 oz of liquids, which was a killer when I was nursing 3x a day. Now is sooooo much easier to get my Water down. As long as I am hydrated and I remember to eat I notice I am not as tired. I also make sure I get as much sleep at night as possible. I have fallen asleep with my laptop in bed with me while doing homework. I finally had to remind myself I needed to go to bed the same time every night. So I picked a bed time and I stay to it for the most part. No more waking up to my computer tipped over next to me!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
