I am considering going to Dr. Alveraz in Mexico. Has anyone gone to him? How was it? Thanks.

The best thing I've ever done! I was sleeved by Dr. Alvarez July 7, 2012. Instead of repeating everything do a search and read the posts on him. He is AMAZING! Any questions just ask.

I 2nd Sweetsusie. My surgery was 8/31/12 with Dr Alvarez. All was great and has been smooth sailing. You picked an excellent Dr! Just follow the pre & post op diet instructions and you will do great.

I 3rd Susie. I was sleeved by Dr. A on 08/17/12 and coud not be more happier. As Susie has also said search his name in the forums and you will find my posts and many others telling of their experience. I will say he offered the best care hands downs of any doctor I even seen US or otherwise.

I too was sleeved by Dr.A on 8/02. He is wonderful and such a great surgeon. You will not be sorry that you chose him. I would recommend him to anyone that is self pay and wants to go to MX. You will get great care from his staff ;)

I am another happy Dr. Alvarez patient. i had my surgery on Aug. 6th and I cannot be more thankful of my decision. I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. A in person back in May and I knew he was the one for me. I could not have chosen a Better Dr for myself.

So..I am flying to Mexico to get my surgery on November 17th with Dr. Alvarez. what is best? Checking a bag or just taking a small carry on? I have a plane change there and back.

They sent me a list of what to bring..what are the items that helped the most?

I would only take a carry on if I were doing it again. You need to wear something comfy and casual to the hospital and just wear it back to the hotel too. You only need comfy pj's in the hospital and some slippers or light shoes for walking the halls.

One thing that I took was a case for my glasses, I kept lip balm, breath spray and the stylus for my I pad in it. I slept with it in bed with me so if I needed those things, they were very easy to find. You can go to Walmart once you are at the hotel in San Antonio for any broth or Jello. No use taking the Protein Shots, if you desperately want one, Walmart has them also. The hotel shuttle will take you back and forth to Walmart. Take some one dollar bills to tip the driver. I also brought a thank you card with a tip for Rosy for taking us back and forth in the van. Dr.A gives you a tummy pillow and a small backpack sack to carry the pain meds and his folder of paperwork in. I took things we never touched. Pack lightly, anything you need you can probably find at Walmart.

I am starting my 3 week pre-op liquid diet tomorrow. tonight I have my last meal for a while. lol. Dr. Alvarez it seems has a much longer pre and post op diets. But i guess its better to be safe than sorry.

It is better to do a pre op to shrink your liver plus it helps to prepare you for life after surgery. My pre op was 10 days but I did 14 just because I wanted my liver to be shrunk. I wanted my surgery to go really well and it did ;) Dr. A is a wonderful surgeon!

For the person that asked, he is through endobariatrics.com not alighterme.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
