Bad Eating And Gaining Weight Back:(

Recommended Posts

Something I love to do is walk outside. I take that time to relax, enjoy nature, and pray. We walk 1-3 times per day, one mile or so at a time.

I forgot to mention that I would graze all day not eating a full meal because I always had this problem.

Go back to journaling. Three meals, two snacks...or eating 5 times per day. Sometimes when I did that, I'd wait a few minutes during an eating period and if I was still hungry, I'd eat more and count both things in the same eating slot. Either way...if you count your calories and mark the Protein down, as well as sugar and fiber...you'll be facing yourself and be better able to make good choices. Stick to 1000 calories. You can do it!

Hi Katrina. Firstly, if you're not doing it already, start logging your food on Myfitnesspal. You can friend me on there (username butterthebean) and others here will friend you as well. Nothing will help keep you honest like having everyone look at your food diary everyday. Secondly, what's your plan for exercise tomorrow? You need one if you don't already have one. If you're not comfortable on your treadmill at the moment because of its weight limit, get outside and walk. It's beautiful here outside right now (Houston), hopefully you're getting some good weather where you are.

And lastly, stop grazing. Don't eat anything for at least 3 hours after your previous meal. Get back to your Protein shakes. If cravings start to overtake you between meals, do 50 situps or jumping jacks instead. I promise you after that you will not be thinking about food. You need something to take your mind off of food. Exercise is excellent for this.

All you need is a little bit of progress in the right direction to light your fire and motivate you again. Good luck.

Stop grazing! My dr did tell me that is a sure way to sabotage yourself. Create a meal plan and stick to it! When you feel the urge to graze, grab your Water bottle! You can do it! When you get to goal you will look back and be amazed at your progress!

Awesome I will add you I plan on getting on the treadmill in the morning on low speed. Walking outside always hurt my knees.

Crap, butterthebean who am I on myfitnesspal?! I'm such a ditz!!! Anyway add me too, I'm pre sleeve and had a fairly good day yesterday except for obvious bad sugar hits!!! I need to fill that with fruit and nuts more but I'm learning and trying to figure out exactly what my body is asking for sometimes... I'm a fairly active person but usually don't log every bit of cise I do unless it's over 30 mins... But you should get a pedometer and try to get your 1000 steps in, find a pool with an indoor section (I know you guys are going into winter there)... I reckon exercise helps keep you motivated to eat healthier coz you don't wanna eat crap you just exercised off!!!

And also, easy thing really, either start shopping online or make a list and STICK 2 IT!!! Don't buy it anymore- not for your family or you! I bought chocolate ice cream bars for hubby and have had half the box! When I'm sleeved that will be a slider and obviously just something I cannot have near me anymore!

Important no# 1 thing: LEARN from this :D get confident again by realising you are not a loser! We all get you and we're certainly not losers ;) you have to figure out what makes this hard for you and eliminate it! Everything in moderation works for some and maybe for you, but if there is something you feel is really sabotaging your success keep this in your mind and never go near it again, swap it, say "ice cream f'd me up! If I ever want that again I will replace it with hazelnut sorbet or yoghurt or a piece of carob" or whatever!

Oh and Protein you need, yes, but I always end up eating less on the days I have a Protein shake! Ima go have one now!

Peace and good luck, get back on that tired old horse again and again and again! That's the best we can do :D

Oh and just told by hubby I'm blevarre on myfitnesspal :)

Hello, I just finished reading your story & you know what you are not a loser or failure - I'm only a few days pre-op & there are minutes here & there that I still ask myself did I do the right thing & then I think to myself - I wanted to be healthy & be around for my daughter... We are all here to help each other & we all know we will have these moments but as long as you wake up tomorrow & get back on track then that's what counts... Be glad you have a sleeve of steel - lol - but you have to take control - what I found is very helpful is I downloaded 'my fitness pal' app on my iPhone & even though I'm just on liquids & yogurt ' etc it really helps - I will forever use it... Be encouraged not discourages... Everyone is here to help, I am so glad for this forum... Hope you have been encouraged...

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
