October 2006 Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone. My surgery date is October 18th. I'm sort of worried a bit now that I"ve read most of the posts for October bandsters. I wasn't told to do any pre-surgery liquid diet. I have a pre-op scheduled with my doctor on October 12th. But I haven't been given any instructions as to liquids beforehand. My BMI is 36 and I was told by neighbor that may be why I don't have to lose any weight before surgery. I'm excited to have a group to belong to that is going through the same thing that I am. I can't wait to hear how you are all doing. I'm just outside of Houston, Texas. Anyone close by let's chat !

Hello and welcome. Spiegel did my surgery 9/13. Let me share a few notable things with you regarding my experience in weeks 1 and 2 post surgery.

First: liquid Tylenol solved my pain problem quite well; I refrigerated it to cut down on the medicine-taste. Also, there is now Tylenol on the Go, a mint flavored chewable tablet.

Second: Protein drinks: I found them awful, but protein is something we cannot do without. My advisor at Speigel's office said Ensure was NOT recommended, due to high sugar content. I tried Adkins Advantage and SlimRite (Kroger's name brand), but in the end, I purchase some Unjury unflavored Protein Powder (at the suggestion of multiple people from LBT) from the website Unjury.com. It come in flavors if you prefer; order the sampler package to get you started.

I also purchased a Magic Bullet blender (on eBay or any department store) and began making my own Protein Drinks with skim milk, a package of unjury (20 gms protein) and one of two tsps of sugar-free Jello pudding (butterscotch, chocolate, etc.), and 1/2 to 1/3 of a banana. The Magic Bullet mixes it very nicely and it is so much tastier than any pre-packaged drink. The Magic Bullet can pulverize anything to a mush consistency, just what I needed as I progressed to thicker liquids in week 2 and mushies in week 3. Hard Boiled eggs, some FF mayo and presto, egg salad; some tuna or canned chicken, mayo, presto, tuna/chicken salad.< /p>

Other clear liquid favorites were SF popsicles, SF jello (in small 3 oz paper cups) and Gatorade. When chicken and beef broth became intolerable, I switched to egg drop soup; strain out the egg if you don't want to chance it, but the egg is a great protein source. Also, I found hummus to be an excellent source of protein. As for thicker Soups in week 2, Campbell's Select (in the boxes) are great as are the Imagine Organic soups at HEB.

Vitamins: Centrum chewables, citus-berry flavor, twice a day for the first two weeks.

Best of luck to you and again, welcome to the Land of the Banded.

well, had my band put in on friday. My partner had hers done at 7:30 in the morning; mine was supposed to be at noon, closer to 2 by the time we got started. but the hospital was great, they put us in the same room to sleep off the drugs, and then we decided to go ahead and stay over. Being waited on was a good thing. Am more sore than I expected to be, but remarkably not hungry. Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes.

:clap2:

TXSunflower: I don't have to do a pre-op diet either. I think it just depends on your doctor. Good luck!

Starting to get a bit nervous so I'm trying to stay busy. I'm cleaning my house and every now and then come sit at the computer to check in like now:) I was ok earlier..... Well, next time I check in will be after I return home from being banded. Unless, I have major anxiety tonight then I may just chime in some more:paranoid .

Best wishes to all October bandsters!

Hugs and Kisses to all!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
