Hey bandsister!

I hear you on missing the whole experience of eating meals and all. I am sure that will really hit me more when I start going to restaurants with my family, friends and co-workers and can't eat the things that everyone else can. Eating is a social thing for me. When I moved to Austin I enjoyed just experiencing new Mexican food places and comparing them, so much of my life is just wrapped up in all of that! I have looked at it like a new experience and new beginning now though, where I can *get to know me* on different levels now, and find other things to do with my time now! I will now have extra time and money from not eating as much (and I also quit smoking when I had surgery)! I can't wait to start finding things that interest me now besides food!

I can relate to what you are saying though....(hugs)

Hi everyone.

How did you feel after the surgery on the way home.

My mom is going to come with me during my procedure. Since she doesn't drive & its in downtown Chicago - i figured we'd take the el and then a cab there and then just flip it on the way home.

My mother thinks I'm crazy and that there is no way I'm going to be up to the motion of the train.

Any thoughts?

Hi Sonia. I used to live in Chicago too! :girl_hug: If I were you I'd take a cab all the way home...it will be hard to climb up and down the stairs and you will be jostled around a lot. Which line are taking? Which neighborhood do you live in? Are you worried about the expense of a cab ride? I think you'll be more comfortable in car.

I think I was just thinking about how the el is easier. We'd be taking the orange line but you are right - I have managed to forget about all fo those dang stairs! I can barely make it up the stairs on a good day!! A cab it will be.

I just got the call from the recovery folks giving me my arrival time. 9:30 on thursday with surgery at 11. with nothing to eat or drink after midnight? Dang! I'mm gonna be growly! holy schmoley!! I think its safe to say I'm freaking out!!

Congratulations to everyone being banded today and this week! I haven't posted much, but you have really inspired and encouraged me. My surgery is one week away from today on 10/31. The surgery is paid for now so seems a little more real. I am on the 10 day liquid preop diet and haven't been super compliant:cry today. I am planning a vanilla Atkins carb control shake for dinner and will do better tomorrow!! My husband has been very supportive of the lap band surgery and he hopes to have it in the Spring (when the bank account is replenished:). I am starting to tell a few of my close friends about the surgery and everyone has been positive/supportive. I have shopped for all of the must have preop lap band items and filled prescriptions. Also cleaned and tried to catch up loose ends at work - NESTING :girl_hug: I am feeling excited and nervous. I bought gas x strips and chloraseptic strips. Hope everyone is doing well!

mzsmartypantz,

Great idea for the surgery dates. I was banded on 10/06/06. Doing well. The first week was hard but feeling better now and looking forward to my first fill in about 2 weeks. I'm glad that there are plenty of October bandsters.

Good luck to all of you.

Hi Kellie,

I was pretty tired until the last few days (I am now 3 weeks out). Partly it's anaesthetic / healing effects, and partly diet.

I trust that you are trying to take some light exercise (walking) in the mornings when you feel up to it. That will help boost your energy levels, but don't overdo it or you will feel even more tired.

I guess you are still on liquids for another week. In terms of the liquid diet, I find that taking a daily Berocca Performance (with Calcium, magnesium and zinc) really helps, as does boosting Protein in drinks & Soups (I favour greek yoghurt or light sour cream). Blend up a home made meat based Soup, it's very satisfying, and I found that I had more energy once I was able to tolerate the meaty soups again. A daily yakult type of drink doesn't go astray either, as it helps improve digestion, leading to better energy recovery from the diet. I am just starting on mushies, so will continue with the same protein boosting methods (yoghurt / sour cream) but now will also include 'solid' yoghurt, soft cheeses, fish etc as well.

Hope that my ideas help. PM me if you want to chat.

Anna.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
