Today was my first day working out since surgery. I'm 7 weeks out. I did a Zumba class then a piloxing class this morning. It hurts whenever I take a deep breath, right in the middle of my chest. Should I be worried?

Yeah its more to the right side. I don't know if blood clots would still be an issue. I had my gallbladder out almost 3 weeks ago.

Chest pain in women is less obvious than men sometimes. Best to go to the ER.

Sounds like trapped surgical gas moving around from pumping up the belly from last surgery you had. When you worked out today you probably freed it up from where it was hiding.Mine is in my chest and shoulder.

During a laparoscopic surgery, CO2 is used to fill the abdomen and lift it away from the internal organs, giving the surgeon a better view for the procedure. Even though the CO2 is removed following surgery, the gas can become trapped against the diaphragm, causing pain and discomfort that can then radiate into the shoulder because of pressure on the phrenic nerve.

Heat and pain medications often bring relief. Try using two heating pads--one on the front and one on the back of the affected shoulder. If you are not taking medication for pain, ask your doctor which one might work best to alleviate your gas related pain.

Also for the shoulder pain, some hospitals recommend lying on your side and bringing your knees up to your chest. Hold this position for 5 to 15 minutes. As this can be difficult post hysterectomy, check with your doctor first. Lying on your back with your hips elevated on several pillows may also help.

To help dissipate the gas, consider peppermint tea, ginger ale, or carrot juice. Some doctors recommend drinking warm liquids. Carbonated drinks should be avoided for a few days.

I haven't had any issues since surgery. Could it really be gas still almost after 3 weeks? I called a nurse hotline and she said I should go in to get checked. I hate that I have to take my 5 yr old to watch them do everything to me.

I had surgery 8/20. Over the first few days after surgery I had what I assumed was still the gas pain and surgical pains or whatever. I started to develop a rapid heart rate. I attributed it to dehydration. On the saturday after my surgery I started getting a pain when I took in a breath, and it got to the point where I couldnt take deep breaths only short shallow ones. It was only on one side at any given time, but had the ability to be either on right or left side. It hurt when I inhaled in my ribcage area on my backside, and radiated into that shoulder. Sharp stabbing pain. By Monday the 27th I couldn't stand it anymore. I went to the ER (even though I almost felt embarrassed out of fear that it would just be gas or something dumb) they did a CT of my chest and I have a blood clot in each lung. An additional CT of abdomen/pelvis showed two more, one in kidney one in splenic vein. PLEASE, If you have pain, go to at least an urgent care facility. It's not worth risking your precious life.

Well I went in. They did an ekg and chest xray. They said they were normal. Diagnosis: costal chondritis. Inflammation in the ribs. We will see what happens. I'm not a fan of the e.r. I went to as it is. I went for pain on my right side. Took blood and it was normal so sent me home. Went to a different hospital same day and had emergency surgery to take my gallbladder out.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
