Any Advice About How To Keep From Being Nervous Before Surgery

Recommended Posts

Also I am really excited about being sleeved on Wednesday I have to admit I'm still more than a little nervous

I had my lap being removed two months ago and have been waiting to get my sleeve

I am used to the hospital so it's not that

I think it's mostly I'm afraid of the nausea and the pain and what to expect for that first day.

I am really nervous about the leak test the day after. what is that like

I know I'm not going to regret the surgery . It is just getting over that hurdle

Was anybody else out there scared before you had your surgery

I was terrified of the surgery. I was shaking and wanting to run away. I had many excuses that made a lot of sense to me. But I did it anyways. I am so thankful also. I didn't have to do a leak test the next day and I have had no complications at all. You will be so thankful and proud of yourself when it's done an over and you will learn healthier eating habits to live by. you will be so skinny at the end of the trail. I would do it again in a heart beat. :)

Don't be too afraid, just tell the doctor your a wimp ( I don't mean that to you personally) and that you don't want to feel ANYTHING! When i was in the hospital they gave me medicine so I wouldn't feel like throwing up, and some serious pain killers. Honestly, all I did was sleep that day , and I felt as if I had tape on my stomach. Not unbearable, just more of a slight discomfort.

About the leak test, thats a breeze. You drink a tiny cup of this afwul tasting Fluid. It taste like palmolive. I only know this from growing up with old school parents who often made me eat soap lol. Then you take three x rays from different angles of your chest and your done. The leak test is really nothing to worry about at all!

My surgeon uses dye to do a leak test before you wake up. It was so nice! You should ask about that option.

Thank you

You made me feel like I can do a leak test

I like the idea of getting a lot of medicine and sleeping all day ha ha

What do you mean you felt like you have tape on your stomach that it was tight or that it was hurting

Did your actual stomach hurt like you were cut or more like being stabbed

Augh! Don't say stabbed LOL. I've never been stabbed and I'm not ready to start now

Oh yeah , trust me, the leak test is a joke! About the tape, picture having masking tape on your stomach area ( not inside the body, i mean outside ). That wouldn't cause you to scream, but it would just feel "funny" walking around like that. It certainly didn't feel like I was stabbed, but when I left the hospital, it felt like I was punched in the belly? But dont take this the wrong way! It's really not that as bad as you think because like I said, you will be sleeping on and off the entire day out of surgery.

the leak test is not bad at all, the worst part is the bad-tasting stuff you swallow. I slept most of the first two days. Tell the anesthesiologist you get nauseated after surgery and they will give you something to prevent it. Your stomach has no pain nerves so it doesn't hurt. The incisions hurt a little bit but not bad, they felt a little like a bad sunburn to me, but the pain medicine made it go away. Really, you will be fine.

A kind of weird thought made me less nervous about the surgery. I just kept thinking about how much more fearful I would be if I was having open-heart surgery- a road I could have been headed down if I did not have the sleeve. It made me focus on the NECESSITY of the surgery, which seemed to help me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
