Almost 2 Weeks Out Eating Normal Food

Recommended Posts

I'm very mindful of carbs my NUT said I need at least 150 every day and I'm sure I'm there. As far as Protein I'm getting in about 50-60 grams everyday. I need to do better with Water it seems like I do better at work with the Water becuase I'm sipping all day.

I realize every program has its own suggestions, but I've yet to see one discussed on here that recommends getting 3 times as many carbs as Protein. I'm almost 10 weeks out, and average 75-90 grams of protein/day, and keep my carbs below 30 grams. (Think Atkins-like...high protein, low carb.)

you are playing rush and roulette with your stomach. You are risking a tear in your staples and your new tummy. I hope you will reconsider eating like this.....better safe then dead!

Every time you eat something that isn't puréed or mushy this early, you greatly increase your risk of a leak, until weeks 6-8. It's not worth it. Take the food they are eating and purée it. Even that would help prevent a leak. Be careful! Leaks will land you in the hospital for quite some time. I watched someone go through this and it's nothing to mess with.

I totally agree, it is not worth a leak and it does take time for the stomach to heal. Take your time, you will feel better about it in the long run

No I'm a hard head I'm suppose to be on puréed at this point. I have been doing alot of Soups and Protein Shakes but I wanted some nourishment some "real " food so I ate it and I feel great . I do alot of exercise 2 hours on the treadmill broken into two parts 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening and all is good and my scales are still going down grow 247 to 215.5 this morning :)

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. There is a reason why you need to follow the eating plan set out by your NUT. Slow down, you will have lots of time, the rest of your life to eat with your family!!

Whoa are you sure she said 150 grams of carbs? That is way too many to be a low carb, high protein diet. Protein should be 60 grams or more. Review your guidelines that you must have received. Don't mess with this, you are in this to lose weight not do what your friends say or have done. Be a leader for yourself!

My nut told me 120 carbs. I know it's lower than 150 but I always thought that was too high. I stay at 70 usually.

I couldn't consume 150 carbs right now if I wanted to . I mean you can only eat a few bites of anything. You guys had a point , I will admit I had a rough time getting dinner to settle , I had to run a mile literally to digest it. I'll be back on the Protein Shakes in the morning. Dang this first month is hard . I think I'll wait until week five to start eating solids again as I was told . Forgive me guys I'm a little hard headed

We were sleeved same day!! I too feel great. Have had no pain, no problems getting Protein and fluids. While I "feel" like I can and want to eat normal, they were very clear-it's not due to pain. They don't want your baby stomach digesting. You want Fluid to move right through without "churning". Because the staple and glue line is healing. The more your stomach twists and squeezes against food this early, the higher the likelihood of a leak. It's just 3-4 more weeks. Totally worth the wait. My nutritionist said if you must-chew food and spit it out. Don't work your baby stomach before its ready.

We were sleeved the same day too. I have kept to my plan and literally counting the days till Tuesday when I can start pureedMushy food. I'm so eager to add more of a selection of food to my "can eat" menu. I can relate to feeling so good too. I feel as if I didn't have any type of surgery other than the big reminder that I can eat only so much before getting full. I dont like that heavy full feeling (I over did it with my Soup and thought I was going to throw up, but thank God I didnt). Hang in there, we're almost to the next phase in our meal plan!

I am glad that you are deciding to go back, I was really worried about you! it is hard because we all had the surgery for pretty much the same reason......a severe problem with food addiction. you can do this, just give yourself a little time to heal :)

Im' 2 weeks 4 days post op. I eat whatever I want with no problems. However, I puree them as instructed. I also don't eat any bread, Pasta, patatoes or corn. I get plenty of flavor with all the variety but everything is pureed. I will start soft food in 2 days. I also feel that I could eat regular food but I know that this surgery was expensive, my life is important and not following the directions could cause not only short term but possibly long term complications. Give your body a chance to heal, you are worth it! The weight will come off focus more on your Water thats also very important.

Good luck!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
