I'm 18 Days out and notice I actually do seem to get hungry.Generally, about 3 hours after eating. It's not like the sense of hunger I had prior to surgery. I'm not so sure its not stomach acid/emptiness more than anything. Generally, I eat a cracker and it subsides (I'm eating canned tuna and crackers at meals). Does anyone else at 3 weeks or so feel the same way? Does this change some once you're able to eat more? Right now I feel as if I need 4-5 mini meals.

It is probably head hunger but might be stomach acid. I believe I had it too, I called it ghost pains (head hunger in reminiscence lol). Ask your dr. about PPIs (like pepcid) if you aren't already taking one. Cheri suggested it to me and it helped!

And for what you are eating, you probably DO need 4 to 5 mini meals. Seems like early on, I couldn't eat much at once so I was eating more frequently. Just be careful because this is NOT a behavior you want to continue once you progress into solids.

I am 3 weeks out and I am starting to feel hungry as well. I only can stomach about 4 bites and that's all my sleeve allows, therefor it seems like 1 hour later I am hungry again. I guess it's all about getting used to our new anatomy.

My hunger is similar to yours. I feel hungry every few hours, but after a few bites I'm stuffed.

Very different from the way I ate before... takes some getting used to.

hi

i am going to have surgery in a couple of days.

i am very interested in this 'hunger' episodes

does this mean that once you have eaten the few bites and you are 'full' that when you feel hungre again do you have a craving for a particular food and is the 'hunger' the same as you felt pre op?

i am worried when people talk of getting into bad habits that you can end up putting on weight or grazing all the time.

is grazing all the time on 'good foods' bad? - will i not lose weight ?

Rio-

The "hunger" is COMPLETELY different than before surgery. COMPLETELY. I don't have a craving for a specific food- I would almost call it an "empty" feeling more than feeling "hungry". I have been eating 4 or 5 Preztel crackers with smoked salmon, crab or tuna. I have to watch myself not to overeat by just a bite. I generally am full for a few hours, but around 3 hours later feel as if I "need" to eat a little something, so I drink some juice, eat a cracker or some apple sauce or something. But I would not call it "grazing".

Hope that helps :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
