I am almost three weeks post-op and had no complications. I agree with JDHenin....reading this site before surgery made me a paranoid mess! I think as long as you are honest with yourself and are aware of the risks that is enough, no reason to be so anxious you sabotage pre-op.

If you can, find a support group locally. I met a group of women a few weeks before my surgery and it was great motivation to see people at different stages. Not one person regretted having the operation which eased my mind.

I'm 4 weeks out today and I've had no issues whatsoever. I didn't even need pain medication in the hospital. Other than fatigue, I'd barely know I've had surgery at all.

No horror story here either. I had some pretty intense pain the day of surgery. By the next morning (less than 24 hours later), I was fine even though I was a bit tired. I was back at work within a week.

You all are awesome! Great advice! That's exactly what's happening. I'm reading to much! I spoke to the nurse a little bit ago, who told me to stop reading. I think I might take that advice.

Jennlhp... Does the LHP stand for Lighthouse Point? Are you at Cleveland Clinic? I had surgery on 4/20. Other than nausea while in the hospital, this has honestly been a cakewalk. I also had 90 lbs to lose (now only 30 left to go after 16 weeks). It's saved my life. I was also scared to death and never thought I'd actually go through with the surgery. But I did! ZERO regrets.

jen

i had a wonderful surgery, terrific hospital stay - and great recovery

many times you hear more of the "bad" stories because people are calling out for help and support - thats what many people seem to remember and take note of - people with problems

telling, asking others for help and support is why we're here

many times those stories stick out in your mind - when the reality is that most people have only good/great things to say

there are regular problems like gas/nautious/being extremely tire. - but they are normal - and shouldn't count as a horror story

good luck

kathy

Hello! Yes, lighthouse point. I'm going to Dr. Perez out of Holy Cross. I did research on CC, and it's great, but my father is a doctor at Holy cross and knows my surgeon well, so I want to go there.

Awesome! I lived in LHP for 4 years but we just bought a house in Coral Springs. Let's stay in touch!

No issues here. It is surgery and you have to muscle through it. The first week was rough, but my surgery was free of complications. Thank the Lord.

Good Luck!!!

That's exactly what's happening. I'm scared to death now since joining this blog. I have no clue what to do. I've been approved by my insurance co, and I'm ready to go. Now I'm the one pulling back. I wish I had a crystal ball to see if I come through with no issues. I'm healthy other than being fat. I have 90 pounds to lose. I know I need the surgery to help me, but I'm terrified! My surgeon is the best in FL, so that's not the issue either. I need help!

Im right along with you, i need to lose 100. You will be fine. Do not change your mind, I am convinced that this is the ultimate tool and that after trying almost everything... if I don't do it, that will be the worse decision. The doctor knows what he/she is doing, and all you need to do is follow the rules and everything will be ok. Don't miss out on this blessing because of fear.

Thanks! I'm 95% sure I'm moving forward with it. Tomorrow my surgeon is letting me meet with his monthly support group to ask many people who've had it any questions. It will be the best thing for me in the long run. I just wish it was tomorrow so I don't have more time to think and read this site.....LOL!

Thanks Aviiva! I'm trying to only read the positive posts. The negatives ones were freaking me out! Glad to see there actually are normal positive stories.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
