simply.torri got a reaction from scaredoftheunknown in Pre-Op Weight Gaingoodluck, i think you are on the right track.
I would probably focus on the liquid diet (the shakes and small salad like you mentioned) and not the exercise, because exercise will make you build muscle, and muscle will show up on the scale!
Last time I did a liquid diet i lost 11lbs the first week so hopefully you will have the same result! !

simply.torri reacted to Lander in CpapI've been on it for two weeks now and it's pretty quiet unless the mask gets askew in the night and then you can hear the air leaking. Just pull it away and reset it against it your face and you have quiet again. Doesn't bother my husband at all. I've adapted to it quite quickly. I got a mask that just fits around my nose, not the mouth. Sometimes I feel it's lulling me to sleep.
Hope it goes as well for you.

simply.torri reacted to tjmom in Too Big For Wls?i was almost bedridden ...i used a motorized chair in the house...wheelchairs when out and about..(if my husband talked me into going somewhere)...
I always thought I was 5'5"....so when i went for my WLS consultation, that is what i told them... they weighted me 328 and told me my BMI was to high for laproscopy so I needed to lose weight before surgery if i didn't want a big scar... so i lost weight... at time of surgery i weighed 294...BMI 49... ok for laproscopic surgery....
*****update: during my sleep study assessment, they told me i am 5'3"... so technically my BMI was still to high *****
anyway:
prior to surgery: Diabetes out of control (on 3 med with A1C still a 10)....almost bedridden ... wheelchairs or motorized chair...had housekeeper come in to clean and do laundry...
since surgery: Diabetes A1C 6.6 with NO medication...(controlling with diet only) ... out of bed with husband in morning and NO naps.... NO motorized chair in house at all.... I do our cleaning and laundry.....I even weeded a flowerbed for the first time in 15-20 years ..(using walker for resting between pulling weeds) ... when i go shopping with him, i still use my wheelchair depending in how far we are going... never fear, in time i will be out of that also..
AND... have lost 50 pounds and a total of 50 inches! Doctor said because of diabetes I will lose slowly but we are happy with my results .......I use to wear size 26-28 (elastic waist) pants ...now...wear size 18 (zipper and button) jeans! AND... went from 5x to 2x tops!!!
your sister can be helped! i give you permission to share my story with her...
good luck to both of you!

simply.torri reacted to PJ_Sleeve in After You Have Been Sleeved For A While, What Does Retriction Feel Like?Thank you all for responding to this topic! It certainly puts me at ease. You can find many people talk about how they feel right after surgery. (I have a feeling that will be rough.) However, I didn't see many people talk about how it feels to be sleeved after everything is healed and back to "normal." Once again, thank you all!
By the way, insurance just approved me. I had a "tentative" surgery date of September 17th. Now that I am approved, it is not longer a tentative date, but it is actualy a REAL DATE! I AM SOOOOO SCARED! :0)

venting is always allowed here, important to get stuff off your chest
not to be rude or unsupportive..............
IMO you should have been the one to leave.
Is it fair to ask maybe 6 other girls to move because you are having a problem with what they are eating.
so IMO you (one person) should be the one to change rooms.- not 6 others in a group,
my thoughts only, sorry - still luv ya

simply.torri reacted to AngelBaby in Bummed At People's ReactionsHi everyone, I just got home from a good friend's house and it was the first time I've got to see her and sit and chat since I decided I was definitely going ahead with surgery and got a surgery date.. I was hoping she would be excited for me but instead I got the "why don't you take that money and spend it on a personal trainer and a nutritionist instead? I can show you how to eat vegetarian and you can come work out with me whenever you want." She just doesn't get it and I was so disappointed.. I really shouldn't have expected her (or anyone for that matter) to be supportive and excited. But seriously, I can't believe that in this day and age there are still SO many people who just don't get it. She actually told me that she understands because once when she was younger after having kids she had to lose 30 lbs. LOL I guess I just needed to vent a bit because I'm so tired of people who tell me to "just diet". Like I've never done that
Anyway, I've decided that all the important people that I wanted to know about my surgery now know about it and will be there for me to support me next month when I have surgery. I feel like I need supportive people in my life right now and so I'm SO grateful for all of you!! The rest, well maybe I'll tell them someday and maybe I won't.
God it was so disappointing to have such a good friend be so judgemental about WLS though. *sigh* It reminded me to not have expectations of other people and to be grateful my family is so supportive!!
Thanks for letting me vent.

Thanks so much for the ideas! So far I have a Protein shake in the morning for Breakfast, then some applesauce for a snack. For lunch I have soup like tomato or cream of broccoli. Then I might have a yogurt for a snack. I haven't really been that hungry so today I didn't have my yogurt but yesterday I did. So far so good without any problems. Except for today I left out a pretty loud burp and everyone looked at me and we got a good laugh.
The people I work with know I had surgery but don't know what it was for. They are going to have to get used to be burping a lot I guess...lol

simply.torri reacted to cmf1267 in Having Doubts.......It is scary and I have some doubts every once in a while - but I know I've tried over & over to lose weight and can never keep it off and I've never been able to lose enough to get down to a healthy weight.
You're doing this for your health. That's what I have to keep in mind (and then I think about all the cute clothes I'll be able to wear when I get to a healthy weight!!).

simply.torri got a reaction from GreginMI in More Crazy Vsg Questions....Everyone's responses make me so excited! Its so hard to imagine that "there are things more exciting than eating" lol. I mean..... I can't wait to experience this!
As for the tastebud reset-- that is AMAZING! I never thought of that and I look forward to it.
Thanks for all your input!

simply.torri reacted to Raven21 in Just CuriousRight now, at this weight, I'm anxious for all the gas pain, vomiting, or whatever it takes! I can't live like this anymore. I know it's not going to be easy but the choice between the fear and my current condition? As long as I expect to live through it (which I do), it can't be worse than this.
I wish you great luck and NO complications!

i had a wonderful surgery, terrific hospital stay - and great recovery
many times you hear more of the "bad" stories because people are calling out for help and support - thats what many people seem to remember and take note of - people with problems
telling, asking others for help and support is why we're here
many times those stories stick out in your mind - when the reality is that most people have only good/great things to say
there are regular problems like gas/nautious/being extremely tire. - but they are normal - and shouldn't count as a horror story
good luck
kathy

simply.torri reacted to Felicity549 in Just CuriousJennlhp... Does the LHP stand for Lighthouse Point? Are you at Cleveland Clinic? I had surgery on 4/20. Other than nausea while in the hospital, this has honestly been a cakewalk. I also had 90 lbs to lose (now only 30 left to go after 16 weeks). It's saved my life. I was also scared to death and never thought I'd actually go through with the surgery. But I did! ZERO regrets.

simply.torri reacted to MJ's comingN2form in Just CuriousI was sleeved 7/26/12 (tomorrow makes 2weeks) I dont have any complaints. You def have to be head strong..My biggest complaint is the trapped GAS! I'm down 27lbs..my only horror story would be how i'm going to keep all these haters off...because i'm coming into form baby!!
-
simply.torri reacted to mufasas-mom in Just Curiouswhat 'horror stories' are you referring to? I've not really seen too many - except for the unfortunate leaks and such- but even those seem to be small in numbers - at least compared to the horror stories of people with the lap band.

I totally respect your choice in who you spend your time with, but just because you love him isn't a good enough reason. What if he was physically abusive? Should you stay with a man who beats you? Of course not. What he is doing is emotional abuse.
To me statements like "Are you really going to eat that?" "You want more?" are very rude even said in the nicest way. And, getting mad because you are recovering and don't want to have sex is rude. Where is the understanding and support from him? Finally, eating something you love right in front of you is just down right rude.
Again, I respect your choice to stay with him because you love him. I just don't understand it. Please take good care of yourself.

i had not one, but TWO guys i dated tell me they liked me better heavier. that my 120 pound weight loss made me LESS attractive to them, and that ALSO makes me resent them. what, was i just a fat girl fetish? we all go through resenting someone at some point but the best thing u can do is not let him upset you. i know it's hard but if he is being malicious, it might be time to let him go and focus on yourself. there will be plenty of new guys who will appreciate your body as is, and in the future.

simply.torri reacted to FishingNurse in Too SmallI am not concerned about getting to small witht he sleeve... I am more concerned with not keeping enough weight off... Unfortunately I think most of us should be more concerned about that! I have easily gained 3-5 pounds a few times and have had to be careful to lose those again!!!!
