VSG Friends-

I am just over two weeks post-op and had a fantastic first week and lost 15 pounds. In the second week I only lost 2 pounds. I am half way through week three and I won't weigh myself because I am already feeling depressed.

I have been getting anywhere from 40-60g of Protein daily, 70-100g carbs per day, and most of my Water. I am having a hard time with the protein since I am on mushies. I've worked out 4 times a week an hour at a time.

What am I doing wrong? What mushy protein's did you eat? I am still listless and have no energy.

Thanks for your advice!

My first thought is that you're working out too much and may be pushing your body too much. An hour at a time is probably exhausting this early on - you need to recover. Try cutting down your workouts to 30 mins at a time and see if that doesn't help your weight loss and your fatigue.

Also, keep in mind that 2 pounds a week is GREAT. You will have stalls where you lose ZERO pounds. Keep your chin up.

My first suggestion would be to call your nutritionist, and see what they think. If I found myself in the same place, I would work to increase my Protein (I'm supposed to get between 75 and 85 grams per day...regardless of the diet stage...if that means I keep drinking Protein Shakes, then I keep drinking protein shakes), and work to reduce the number of carbs (I keep mine between 20 and 30 grams per day, so I stay in ketosis, burning stored fat). Your nutritionist may have different directions for you, but I've had very steady weight loss over the last 7 weeks using the instructions given by mine. Best of luck!

I had a B12 shot, and that really boosted my energy. I agree, one hour workouts may be a little soon for 14 days post op. Sounds like your doing everything right to me. I had a stall at two weeks that lasted about 8days, uggh! It happens, just keep doing what your doing and you'll get through it!

Two weeks post-op and 70-100g of CARBS? From what I've learned, in the losing phase, carbs should be kept below 60g.

You're taking in more carbs than Protein.

I agree, lower your carbs and raise your Protein and cut back on your exercising.

Great advice, can you tell me how many calories you eat per day?

Great ideas. I will call my Nutritionist on Monday! The carbs are coming from the smoothies I have been making with frozen fruit. I am finding it difficult to consume enough mushie Protein. I have ordered those "new whey liquid protein" shots and hoping that will help if I can sip on those throughout the day.

Thank you everyone!

I was the same. Lost a lot the first week, then it stopped. During the following two weeks, I only lost 4 lbs. I was upset too, as people that were sleeve the same day than me (July 9th) with similar starting weight (260) had continued to lose twice as much. Finally the scale moved 3 lbs earlier this week. I figure that if I just follow the program, don't compare myself to others and just go about my business, eventually it will add up and the weight will be gone. I think is impossible not to lose weight over a range of time if we eating less calories an working out more. Patience is the key. Take a deep breath with me. By next summer, we will both look a lot better than if we hadn't had the surgery. I am certain of it.

I can have pureed tuna. I need to dilute it more as it was too thick and dense today with just light miracle whip and avocado.

From the start I was told to follow the 70/30 rule. 70% Protein 30% carb. With my protein intake between 90-100 grams. So on a perfect day I am 100 grams or more protein and under 30 grams carbs. I am 7 weeks out and have lost steady and am now down 36 pounds with 30-60 minutes of exercise a day. I would low the carbs.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
