I am scheduled for Sept 25!! Counting down the days! I looked last night but could not find a thread for Dr Alvarez. Would it be good to have one for all of Dr alvarez's patients?

Dr. Alvarez does the leak test now during surgery' date=' and No he no longer does the 24 hour test. 24 hours after surgery they will start you out on ice chips to suck, not swallow. The day of discharge, 48 hours after surgery you will be given juice and Water to drink.[/quote']

So what's the general feeling about not having a second leak test? Is that a positive or negative? I can't help but worry that a leak will pop up post op, but was dreading drinking the barium. Feedback please.

Maybe....I'm not sure how it works. You'lle probably be walking up and down the hallway past my room. I sure hope to god that there's good air conditioning in the hospital. How long of a liquid diet have you been on?

You are flying in on the 26th? Maybe we will see each other then. BUt yes, You will probably see me shuffling down the hall with my IV pole : )

Today is day 1 of the liquid diet.. I have to do 10 days. I have been drinking Protein shakes for Breakfast for about a week now, and sometimes for lunch, so THAT part isn't too much of a shock. dinner.. now that will be tricky. How are you doing on the preop?

If you don't have food around to tempt you....its a lot easier. This is day 11 for me and I had been doing supreme. Then my kids birthday party happened Wednesday and I was surrounded by chips, pizza, and cake. I had 1 little piece of pizza and 3 doritos and they were FANTASTIC but boy do I feel guilty. I just have done a little more excercise to justifiy it in my head. On the list of foods you can eat is a can of 98% fat free Soup. I'm not ashamed to say I wouldn't have succeeded at all if it wasn't for my new friend Cream of chicken with a can of nonfat milk and seasoning salt. I look forward to that every night.

Other than that the liquid diet is going good. I'm down 19 pounds so far. All I know is that if I don't get any excecise I have ZERO energy. I have to stay busy doing something active or I think I'd go crazy. Sorry to ramble so much. Good Luck with the liquid diet

Thats funny ... I went home to have cream of chicken soup for lunch! Then I realized it WASNT the 98% fat free kind... so I guess I am off to the store this weekend for that. I am stopping at a chinese restaurant on my way home from work for chicken broth. I will trick myself into believing its WON TON soup.. not just the broth : ) Whatever it takes : )

I am going to visit family this weekend and will be around my nieces. And taking them to a carnival. So I will be around a lot of JUNK food, but it doesn't really interest today. Next week it might be more tempting, so I am glad I am getting it out of the way now...

Good job on the weight loss!! That is a great start! And I am sure it will help with the surgery... and no worries.. ramble all you want!

Just FYI, I am also in Michigan and had my surgery at Barix in Ypsilanti, and was covered by insurance. I was not fully expecting coverage and I found that at Siani in Commerce Township without insurance you can be sleeved for something around 8500.
