Surgery 8/1, Dreading Pre-Op Diet And New App

Recommended Posts

I start tomorrow as well...i have to say that i too have had these mixed emotions even more then before being since my surgery got moved up a week and so i only had 4 days verses 11 days to decide what i wanted to eat before surgery. The only thing that keeps me going is by repeating to myself that it is all worth it...3 weeks liquid is nothing compared to losing my life due to high blood pressure. Cant wait to be healthy again! I wish you the very best!

Hi LorenaVaca,

Thank you! I've realized that the mixed emotions are normal. But after I started the liquid diet I realized that I was acting as if I would never be able to eat normally again. I ate as if someone told me that I would never be able to swallow again, lol! But anywho I look forward to the days that I am able to enjoy it in healthier portions.

Three weeks seems like a long time but just keep busy and you day will be here before you know it!

Two for me too. I think I am going to have a good cry too. Then maybe indulge in myself. Shave my legs, paint my toenails get my bag ready. Try to get out of this funk.

I did it again early this morning...maybe I just need to get some stress out. Once I started to get busy with errands and got to the hospital for pre-op I did much better. Your idea of pampering yourself is a good one, I'm going to do the same tomorrow after my EDG.

HOLY COW, this is really happening, y'all. We are going to be losers soon!

My surgery date is 8/23' date=' my coordinator who I also work with says I need to lose 20 lbs. How they hell is this possible. I was thinking about starting my pre surgery liquid diet on 8/1 to give myself time to get use to just liquid. Does anybody else have to lose weight, if so, are you exercising? Did anyone get the surgery without pre op weight loss. Im just scared that I won't lose the weight and this would be all done in vein. Exactly what is everyone drinking since she just gave me a few options verbally. broth, SF Jello, Water, like a fool I got a pen and paper thinking she was going to give me a list. YEAH NO!!! I just feel lost anyone have any suggestions.[/quote']

Hello start the liquid diet early you will be very surprised at how much you can lose don't give up!! This is just the beginning of the new you!!

Day #7 of Protein shakes and bars...I figured out that I am on about 800-1000 calories a day. What a huge change and it's oddly not been unbearable. 5 more days of this program, then 1 day (day before surgery) only Clear liquids (broth, Jello, sugar free gatorade and the like) and then BAM, surgery. Every day that goes by, I am getting more and more excited. And nervous.

I've decided to make an appointment for a massage and a facial the day before surgery. I'm hoping it will take my mind off of not being able to even have Protein Shakes, which have been helping keep the hunger under control. A little pampering will hopefully go a long way.

August 6 cannot get here soon enough. :P

Good Morning...first day in over a week on this Protein plan where I am feeling EXTREMELY lethargic and grumpy. Just needed a place to come and vent for a second. I so want toast with Peanut Butter and jam. It just sounds so comforting and delicious. The three hours between shakes and bars feels like forever.

Just a few more days.

I'm so happy we all have somewhere to come and share whether it's ranting or sharing good news. There are so many times I felt like everyone else (fam or friends) just didn't understand but then I could come here and talk to others that understood.

@tai, I'm so sorry you are having a rough one, it will be over with soon. I'm with you, I'd love some comfort food right about now, but not as much as I'm going to love being sleeved tomorrow. I had to run to the grocery store today and I just wanted to eat everything.

@dallas, can you believe it's finally here?!!? I have to be at the hospital at 6:45am...EEEKKKK!

Tomorrow is my day! I am packing my little bag with all my stuff for my overnight. I hope I don't forget anything, I live forty minutes from the hospital I am having the surgery at so there will be no "let me run home to grab that realll quick". Loose clothes, check. Toilteries, check. books, check. ID, check. Insurance card, check. I wish I could bring my dog, he always makes me feel better.

Guys, I will be post-surgery tomorrow.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
