I don't care for soda but I do love mineral Water and soda water, I can usually drink an entire miniature Pellegrino, but not guzzled - sipping.

I took a drink of something carbonated the other day. I can't even remember what it was. Oh yes - I can - it was DH's Mountain Dew (gross). We were driving somewhere and the very last bite of my Protein bar went down the wrong way. I grabbed his drink to help stop my pseudo-choking. ;) I gave up sodas for the most part when I got my band, though I still had Fresca about once a month. It wasn't even a "stretch" thing. I saw what sodas were doing to teeth and just decided I didn't want it anymore.

The single drink of Mt. Dew hurt quite a bit until I burped. But I do that with everything. The pressure of gas hurts since getting sleeved. It hurts in my throat. I don't think it was specific to the carbonation, because I almost always (now) get this pain just before I burp.

Thank you ladies! I never guzzle champs heh heh and since I like really wonderful champs the budget keeps that in moderation lol. I really don't like soda but do drink bubbly waters (pellagrino) and I know that would be a no no after sleeve so I've switched to flat Water. :).

Don't worry Iggy, you will be able to sip the Pellegrino and Perrier around about a year out. The high sugar in champs may end up giving you more problems than the carbonation

Actually champagne has the lowest sugar content of wines (good quality/dry) at around 2.5 carbs because (as with all regular wines) the sugars are burned off during the production phase. Unless its a fortified or late harvest wine, they are all pretty low in sugar content. I know folks can do regular wines for the most part, but the carbonation seems to come up as an issue here a lot so I thought I'd ask a pro :).

1 year out and I can eat anything. Just smaller portions. I have a few sips of root beer occassionally. No problems. Belch just like I did before.

The only thing I cannot swallow is red wine. I tried a Chianti Classico and I felt like I was pouring acid into my stomach.

I have not had problems with food. Sugar poses no problems, but I rarely eat it outside very special occasions except for the tiny bit (1/2 inch square) of 70 or 80% dark chocolate eat every evening.

I haven't had deep fried food though beyond the occasional stolen french fry.

The topping off pizza makes me a little queasy because it's so greasy. It had that effect on me before so ...

I was having dizzy spells and was told to increase my carbs. I learned really fast that flour tortillas do NOT agree with my sleeve, I have no desire to try corn ones. Also I cannot stomach a scrambled egg but I can eat an egg sunny side up which is interesting. I also think I am post op lactose intolerant, I have tried cheese, yogurt and chocolate milk and all made me sick. I never had a problem with dairy before surgery and since I am only 6 Weeks out I am hoping it will subside.

Throwing up the foam has been the worst part for me, I try so hard to avoid vomiting but it is the only thing that relieves that pressure. I think an antacid would help but my doctor doesn't want to put me on anything unless I absolutely can't live without it.

Oh, just remembered this one. I'm not lactose intolerant (actually fatty milk - anything above 1% - does bother me a bit but that was pre-sleeve) but I've found that milk always tastes off to me, even when it's fine. Brand new, just opened milk will taste off. DH/DD will taste it and tell me it's fine, and I'm ready to pour it down the drain.

I didn't touch milk for about 12 years, I guess I got too used to being away from it.

I have to say, I was moderately lactose intolerant before surgery. I could have yogurt and kefir, some cheeses, no milk or cream, no ice cream (not that that stopped me!)

Post surgery, I am living on dairy! I'm kinda amazed at how few problems I am having. The only thing I can think of is that I am having much smaller portions at a time than I would have...2-3 oz of cheese instead of a brick! I'm still surprised after reading how many people become lactose intolerant from the surgery

Reaaallllly hoping that does not happen. I could not imagine the buyers remorse that would be involved with that....

I'm 3 months out, and I have a littany of things I can't eat...which has made life...interesting.

No bread, tortillas, breading (like on chicken or chilie rellenos). Can only have cheese in small amounts. NO chicken - doesn't matter how it's prepared, it sticks and causes such pain, feels like an elephant on my chest. No rice. No green leafy veggies of any type. No eggs - except in small amounts as part of quiche, etc. No cruiceferous veggies, even if steamed to mush. Some types of fish. No yogurt. No soy, any type. No Protein shakes (none that I've found yet....the uncontrollable diarrhea within 15 minutes of consumption is always amusing while at work or on an hour-long car trip). No ice cream, no popcicles - even sugar free.

Things I was told I wouldn't be able to eat anymore...but can! Beef, all types: ground, steak, etc. Beans.

Your mileage will vary. There's no way to predict.

So what I'm hearing is to enjoy fried chicken now (my absolute favorite) now while I still can.

That is scary... From what you listed, I would be living on beef and Beans forever. I basically do a high Protein low carb diet anyway, so to eliminate cheese and yogurt or milk and I would literally starve to death.

With my luck, this would be my picky a$$ sleeve that I would pull out of the bag.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
